Chapter Ninety-Four: The First Meeting of Two Archenemies
In the distance, a black business van was racing forward at breakneck speed, heedless of traffic laws as it barreled through everything in its path.
It was Fan Tianxing’s vehicle, and the man behind the wheel was Ren Zhonghao. His leg had long since healed, and he was now perfectly fit for the role of driver. At present, he was Fan Tianxing’s devoted henchman.
Fan Tianxing sat in the passenger seat, head bowed as he studied a painting with intense concentration.
It was the very painting the old man had given him that day.
He looked at it for a very long time before finally putting it away, his face filled with sudden enlightenment.
"So that’s how it is... So I’ve only now finally grasped the true meaning of the Book of Divine Words."
As he said this, confidence burst in his eyes.
"The owner of the Abnormal Domain—this time, I’m going to make you finish. No matter how powerful you are, what can you use to fight the gods?"
By now, Feng Tianlin had gathered all the more powerful eerie creatures in Spirit City, waiting for the so-called danger to arrive.
Though he had no clues at all, Feng Tianlin could guess that this time, Fan Tianxing was probably the one bringing people here again.
Not long after, the orange cat suddenly bristled all over. The fur on its back stood on end at once, and its claws shot out involuntarily.
"So scary, so scary, meow!"
Feng Tianlin frowned. He had never seen the orange cat react like this before. No, this wouldn’t do. He couldn’t just wait around like this. He needed to get underhanded.
After arranging for the eerie creatures to lie in ambush throughout the city, he himself hid somewhere outside the city and used the Mimic skill to disguise himself as an utterly inconspicuous blade of grass.
"Heh heh heh. A sneak attack from the shadows."
Soon, a vehicle arrived. Fan Tianxing and the others got out far from Spirit City and planned to continue on foot.
He had brought six people: Ren Zhonghao, two martial artists, one spirit controller, and two Taoist priests.
To hire these five men, he had cast all pride aside, solely for the purpose of completely eliminating the owner of the Abnormal Domain this time.
As they walked, he said to the five of them, "True Master Yan, stay behind and protect me. The rest of you just focus on slaughtering the eerie creatures. If any of them unleash an Abnormal Domain, I’ll kill it myself."
The others nodded and kept moving forward.
Their task was only to draw out the owner of the Abnormal Domain; dealing with that owner was Fan Tianxing’s job alone.
Not long after they reached the area outside the city, a Taoist priest holding a bagua disc stroked his beard and said, "This city is no ordinary place."
Fan Tianxing nodded. "How could it be ordinary? It’s the city of the King of Eerie Creatures."
With that, he waved his hand. "Come on, let’s go meet him."
The group entered the city, but not a single eerie creature could be seen. The old Taoist priest with the bagua disc remained calm and unhurried, placing the disc on the ground and forming hand seals with his fingers.
Before long, a faint light began to glow from the bagua disc.
"This lot of eerie creatures is a little interesting, huh? They even know to lie in wait and ambush us."
Fan Tianxing snorted coldly. "That’s all they amount to. Let’s turn their own plan against them."
After saying this, the group continued forward. More than ten minutes later, the city gates suddenly shut, and countless eerie creatures surged forth to attack them.
But these people had anticipated this long ago, and they responded without the slightest panic.
At first they fought defensively, but little by little they shifted straight into offense, and the eerie creatures were simply no match for them.
Inside a pavilion, Qi Xuan said to Bai Langen, "Come on, it’s our turn to make an entrance." And with that, she transformed into a fox with nine tails.
Bai Langen nodded, his expression somewhat grave. "This enemy is extremely troublesome."
"What’s there to be scared of? Don’t we have the Doll Boss?" Qi Xuan patted Bai Langen on the back, signaling him not to chicken out and to charge in together.
Bai Langen said nothing more. He leapt out the window and, in midair, transformed into a colossal demonic dragon.
Seeing the powerful aura radiating from Qi Xuan and Bai Langen, Fan Tianxing smiled.
"They’re definitely the trusted lieutenants of the owner of the Abnormal Domain. Kill them, and that owner will surely show himself!"
Everyone understood his meaning and immediately shifted the focus of their attacks onto Qi Xuan and Bai Langen.
They were all human cultivators of the fifth level or above of the Origin Realm. Though Qi Xuan and Bai Langen were strong, they were stronger still.
The two sides quickly plunged into battle.
Bai Langen spat out raging fire, sending flames onto the body of a muscular man, but the next moment a talisman was slapped onto him, and he was blasted far away.
Qi Xuan was surrounded by two men. The spirit controller took out a gong and drum set, which floated in the air while constantly being struck, releasing wave after wave of sound that left her with no room to counter. She could only be suppressed by the other martial artist and forced to endure the blows.
Feng Tianlin had now turned himself into a brick, silently watching everything from the rear.
"Damn it, this lineup is no joke. Looks like I’ll have to make my move. But the problem is, which one of them is Fan Tianxing?"
There were only three people not fighting: one Taoist-looking fellow, who was obviously not him, and the other two—Ren Zhonghao and Fan Tianxing—but Feng Tianlin didn’t recognize either of them at all.
Ren Zhonghao looked a little older, in his thirties already, while Fan Tianxing was only in his teens and looked very young.
He couldn’t tell from appearance alone which of the two was the one he was looking for. Since he couldn’t tell, he decided not to bother.
"Anyway, neither of those two has much ability. I might as well take them both down together."
Feng Tianlin knew that if he didn’t act soon, Qi Xuan and Bai Langen might not be able to hold out.
He became air and slowly drifted toward Fan Tianxing’s direction.
"Fifty meters."
"Thirty meters."
"Ten meters."
Just as the distance closed to merely five meters and Feng Tianlin had already begun channeling energy, ready to strike at any moment, the Taoist priest suddenly turned his gaze toward him.
His eyes narrowed. "A moment’s carelessness, and you’ve actually gotten this close."
Feng Tianlin knew he had been exposed. His reaction was lightning fast, and he immediately unleashed his Abnormal Domain.
A blood-red Abnormal Domain swallowed everyone at once.
Qi Xuan and Bai Langen, who had been locked in fierce combat, changed from grave to delighted the moment they entered the Abnormal Domain. Looking at the humans they had been fighting, both wore expressions of open disdain.
What a joke. Not only would their strength be enhanced here, but it was practically limitless power. How could they possibly lose?
At the same time, Feng Tianlin issued an order to the gong-and-drum spirit artifact.
"Attack the humans!"
Upon hearing this, the gong and drum trembled violently, then resumed their beating. Fortunately, the tempo was no longer as fast as before, and their power had weakened considerably. They no longer had any effect on Qi Xuan and the others.
Seeing this, a wild smile spread across Fan Tianxing’s face. He pointed at Feng Tianlin.
"So you’re that doll? The owner of the Abnormal Domain is actually you."
Feng Tianlin glanced at him. "You’re Fan Tianxing?"
Fan Tianxing had never imagined that the owner of the Abnormal Domain he had been desperately searching for would turn out to be the doll he had already crossed paths with ever since first arriving in Spirit City.
Feng Tianlin had never expected that this so-called son of destiny would turn out to be so sleazy and flashy—especially that side-parted hairstyle of his, which looked worse the more one saw it.
To the side, Ren Zhonghao was so frightened he didn’t even dare breathe loudly. The big shot among humans and the big shot among eerie creatures had really come face-to-face like this? But wait—wasn’t the doll in Source City? Why had he come back again?
Meanwhile, the Taoist priest drew out a peach-wood sword and, without hurry, used the blade to cut his own fingertip, drawing something on it with the blood.
The battle was about to erupt.
Feng Tianlin immediately engaged the Taoist priest, and for a moment, ice and fire raged together.
Fan Tianxing, watching from the side and thinking he had already seen through everything, said with confidence to Feng Tianlin, "I get it now. From the very beginning, you knew who I was. Everything you did from the start was just to kill me, wasn’t it?"
