Chapter 53: Battle Against Three A-Ranks
After several hours of “hunting,” Feng Tianlin decided to call it a day. After all, who knew what might happen if he kept going like this? But just then, he spotted three A-class Spirit Tamers, and it seemed they were investigating something.
“Spirit City actually has A-class Spirit Tamers? That shouldn’t be possible. What’s going on? Could it be connected to the recent anomalies in Huaxia?” Feng Tianlin lowered his head in thought, his curiosity piqued by these Spirit Tamers.
As they were about to leave, Feng Tianlin turned to Ruan Miao and said, “Do you see those men in brown trench coats? Follow them quietly.”
Ruan Miao glanced in the direction Feng Tianlin indicated. Sure enough, three men in brown trench coats walked ahead, their faces stern and expressionless. It was obvious they weren’t ordinary people, especially since they wore the standard attire of Spirit Tamers.
This time, she didn’t comply immediately. Instead, she frowned. “I can sense an incredibly powerful aura from them.”
“Hm?” Feng Tianlin was surprised. “You can sense their energy even though you haven’t awakened?”
According to the Spirit Tamer they’d interrogated earlier, Spirit Tamers had to join the organization and undergo stimulation to awaken their mental power. Only a rare few awakened spontaneously after experiencing intense trauma.
Could Ruan Miao have awakened on her own? But that didn’t make sense—she hadn’t suffered any trauma.
After pondering for a long while, Feng Tianlin came to a possibility: the energy of these A-class Spirit Tamers was so strong, and Ruan Miao now possessed vast mental strength, so it wasn’t surprising she could perceive it.
“Don’t worry about it. Just follow them,” Feng Tianlin said.
To him, Spirit Tamers were nothing but lambs waiting for slaughter, no matter how high their rank.
Ruan Miao nodded. Though she instinctively felt these Spirit Tamers were unbearably powerful, Feng Tianlin was just as formidable in her mind. Overcoming her inner fear, she walked toward the three Spirit Tamers.
These three had been brought here by Fan Tianxing. They were a batch of Spirit Tamers secretly cultivated by Huaxia, considered super elites among their kind. Not only could they control strange creatures, but they’d also mastered martial arts and investigative techniques.
Their mission was to investigate a bizarre entity, and they were on the verge of finding it. Yet their captain was behaving rather nervously.
Their captain, code-named Raccoon, had no real name, only a code. He sniffed the air. “I keep sensing a presence following us.”
Upon hearing this, Dumb Bird and Skinny Turtle frowned. Their leader was a little unusual; his sensitivity to auras was acute. If he said they were being followed, then it must be true.
Instinctively, they glanced behind them, trying to spot their pursuer.
And as they looked, their gazes met Ruan Miao’s, who was also watching them. But before they could react further, Raccoon interrupted.
“This person’s tracking skills are impressive. If you look so obviously, she’ll notice. Let’s play along and head to the Ghost Train. There’s no one there; let’s see what she wants.”
The other two nodded. After all, as A-class Spirit Tamers, they could do as they pleased in Spirit City.
But a single glance had revealed something strange—there was a power in that girl’s eyes even greater than their own. An illusion! Surely it was just an illusion!
Their glance hadn’t escaped Feng Tianlin’s notice. He said coolly to Ruan Miao, “We’ve been exposed. Looks like things are about to get rough.”
Though he possessed a bizarre domain, formidable skills, and had reached C-class himself, these A-class Spirit Tamers were still an unknown quantity. He had no idea how tough they’d be.
Ruan Miao said nothing, quickening her pace to follow the Spirit Tamers.
They walked for a long time, eventually reaching an abandoned railway. The three Spirit Tamers stopped and turned to look at the girl behind them.
Ruan Miao halted as well, her gaze steady as she stared at them, clutching an unnervingly creepy doll to her chest.
The sight of the doll startled the Spirit Tamers. Wasn’t this the Nightmare Doll Fan Tianxing had specifically tasked them to investigate?
Everyone instantly tensed—not because of anything else, but because the unassuming doll was, in fact, the legendary master of the city of bizarre entities, Tianjing City!
They stared intently at the doll, channeling all their mental power into their strange creatures, ready to fight at any moment.
As they fixed their eyes on the doll in Ruan Miao’s arms, a voice came from below.
“What are you all looking at so seriously?”
Everyone involuntarily lowered their heads, only to see the doll grinning at them with an exaggeratedly twisted smile.
These three Spirit Tamers were not ordinary. In a split second, they responded, directing their strange creatures to attack Feng Tianlin.
Were these Spirit Tamers strong? Exceptionally so. But facing Feng Tianlin now…
“Well, well, you three are quite interesting.”
A dazzling light flashed in Feng Tianlin’s left eye. The attacking strange creatures passed right through his body. When they looked again, the ground was covered with identical nightmare dolls.
“An illusion! The doll can create illusions! Only one of these dolls is real!” Raccoon was clever; he immediately deduced Feng Tianlin’s skill and warned his teammates.
But before he could finish, one of the dolls leapt onto his face, strangling his neck. “Which one’s real? Which one’s fake?”
Raccoon remained calm. He bit his tongue hard, channeling part of his mental power to his eyes. The intense pain and mental focus brought instant clarity.
Once clear-headed, he realized there were still several dolls on the ground, but the one gripping his neck was a fake.
Feng Tianlin noticed his actions—someone had managed to break his illusion. He felt a surge of annoyance.
He was about to deal with Raccoon first when Dumb Bird released his own creature—a wooden woodpecker sculpture. It flapped its wings, soared into the air, then dove, slicing through the air toward Feng Tianlin.
Feng Tianlin teleported above the woodpecker and slapped its back. “Frozen Frost!”
A torrent of frigid air erupted, freezing the woodpecker mid-dive into a block of ice.
Just then, he saw a massive turtle shell crashing down toward the doll’s phantom.
Reacting quickly, Feng Tianlin kicked the frozen woodpecker, sending it smashing into the turtle shell. The woodpecker shattered instantly.
The sight left the three Spirit Tamers utterly stupefied.
