Chapter 112: The Sun-Chasing Bow
Long Mengting raised her eyelids, reinforced her arm with her terrifying claws, and prepared to open the door and crush the blind fool waiting outside.
But the moment she stepped out, she saw Wesford kneeling on one knee before the door, holding a longbow. Seeing her emerge, he immediately offered it to her. As soon as the bow neared Long Mengting, it erupted in a blinding radiance, a light so intense that it sent her flying backward.
When she recovered, she glared at Wesford with furious eyes. Wesford was stunned for a moment, then, as if realizing something, he bit his finger, drew blood, and smeared it over the longbow.
"This is the Sun-Chasing Bow, a supreme treasure of your Huaxia. It is my family’s mission to deliver this bow to you."
Long Mengting narrowed her eyes. She had no idea what he was talking about; all she wanted now was to kill him. Wesford noticed her grotesquely enlarged arm, but he forced himself to rationalize it: "She’s such a small girl; it’s only logical that her arm would grow larger to wield such a powerful longbow." With that thought, he dismissed it.
Hearing this, Feng Tianlin’s eyes lit up. He immediately hopped onto Long Mengting’s shoulder and told her, "This bow is interesting. Give it a try and see if you can master it."
Long Mengting glanced at him, then looked hesitantly at the bow. She walked over slowly, and this time, she was not repelled by the holy light. She reached out with her reinforced arm and took hold of the bow. For a moment, the energy within the bow clashed violently with the sinister energy radiating from her. The collision of energies lasted only a heartbeat before the entire bow dissolved into a wisp of energy and flowed into her body.
She closed her eyes, feeling the surge of power within her, her face contorted in pain. Not long after, she opened her eyes; the veins around them were bulging, and her irises had turned an unnatural red. In the next second, the Sun-Chasing Bow materialized back in her hand.
Seeing this, Wesford urged, "Quick, try to use it!"
Feng Tianlin was equally anxious: "Give it a shot."
Long Mengting seemed to summon all her strength to draw the bowstring. The moment she pulled it back, an arrow materialized out of thin air. She aimed toward the window, unwilling to destroy the castle, which Feng Tianlin had said was quite useful. Despite putting every ounce of her strength into the effort, she only managed to draw the bow halfway before she collapsed from exhaustion.
At the moment the arrow was released, a massive shockwave blew Feng Tianlin and the others away, leaving the room in complete disarray. Even the window was blown open to three times its original size. The arrow itself vanished into the horizon.
Meanwhile, in the Sakura Country, someone had finally reached the Origin Opening Realm. This Spirit-Wielder was leading a group of human survivors in an assault on a small city—their last hope. If they could take this city, the humans of the Sakura Country would have infinite possibilities. There were not many sinister creatures in the small city, and their strength was generally weak. No one could stand against him. Seeing that victory was at hand, the humans were filled with excitement.
"Yosh! Once we take this place, all the survivors in the Sakura Country will flock to us. Plus, the Lighthouse Nation will provide us with a large amount of defensive sinister technology. The revival of the Sakura Country is just around the corner!"
The Sakura Country had acted as a lapdog for the Lighthouse Nation for so many years that it was only natural for the Lighthouse Nation to help them. However, these blinded people seemed to have forgotten one thing: why would the Lighthouse Nation go to such great lengths to contact them and offer selfless aid? Everyone knew the Lighthouse Nation cared only for profit; they would never do anything without a return.
These humans, their minds filled with visions of a beautiful future, fought with reckless abandon. They carved a bloody path through the city's sinister creatures. The Spirit-Wielder stood in the center of a nearly abandoned square, his own summoned creature hovering beside him, surrounded by his companions. Seeing the battle raging around him, his blood boiled. It was a scene straight out of a hot-blooded anime.
"This is even more intense than Boruto!" he thought.
They were the leaders and the strongest among the group, already planning the city’s development and how to curry favor with the Lighthouse Nation. But just then, a colossal wave of energy descended upon them. Before anyone else could react, the Spirit-Wielder looked back, but before he could even identify what it was, everything in his field of vision was swallowed by a burst of violent energy.
When everything settled, the land was left completely barren. This was the work of the arrow that had been fired. Once again, the survivors of the Sakura Country were plunged into darkness and despair. This was merely the result of Long Mengting's lack of power and the forced usage; one could only imagine the terrifying potential of the Sun-Chasing Bow at full strength.
Back at Wesford’s estate, Feng Tianlin slowly crawled up from the ground. That shockwave had quite a kick. Looking over at Long Mengting, he saw she was slumped on the floor, eyes tightly shut, with the Sun-Chasing Bow lying nearby. Feng Tianlin rushed over and channeled his energy into her body. Finding nothing seriously wrong, he turned his attention to the bow. It now felt completely inert, no different from an ordinary weapon.
"Is it a one-time use item?"
Thinking this, he prepared to ask Wesford for answers, but after looking around, he found only a corpse. At that moment, Chimera and the Burst Bear arrived. Chimera drifted to Feng Tianlin’s side. "What happened here?" Chimera had been sent to find any survivors in the castle; he couldn't let a single soul escape. The Burst Bear had been busy looting the vaults. While Feng Tianlin didn't care for such treasures, humans did, and he would need them to lure people in later.
Feng Tianlin picked up the Sun-Chasing Bow and looked at his companions. "I have no idea what that guy was, but he insisted on gifting this bow to Long Mengting." Recalling the incident, he speculated, "Long Mengting tried to absorb the bow's primordial power but failed."
He had touched the bow himself, but his system gave no reaction. Since he couldn't absorb it, it was certain that the bow did not belong to the realm of sinister creatures. When he tried to probe it with his own energy, it was immediately repelled.
After a moment of thought, Feng Tianlin deduced the problem. The bow likely required a specific type of energy to function. Long Mengting’s shot had exhausted the last bit of residual energy within it. To use it again, a different fuel was needed—perhaps the mental energy of a Spirit-Wielder, the spiritual power of a Taoist, the internal energy of a martial artist, or something else entirely. Whatever it was, it certainly wasn't the energy of sinister creatures.
To figure out which one, he would have to experiment. He regretted killing those three Spirit-Wielders earlier; now he had no test subjects. He reasoned that since the bow was from the Sunset Country, it might be related to their "Oracles." Once he became more famous, those Oracles would naturally come looking for him, so he wasn't in a hurry.
Storing the Sun-Chasing Bow in his sinister domain, he prepared to move on to the next phase of his plan.
