The Nightmare Demon was still wondering how the little girl could sleep in a dreamscape when he was suddenly startled and spun around. To his surprise, what stood behind him was a doll.

Sensing the intense aura of an uncanny creature radiating from the doll, the Nightmare Demon slowly asked with a bewildered expression, “Where did this cursed spirit come from?”

In the Sunset Nation and the White Flag Nation, uncanny creatures were divided into several categories.

There were cursed spirits, which formed when an inanimate object suddenly became an uncanny creature; zombies, which arose from the corpses of living beings; ghosts, the soul-forms of the dead; and the local specialty—demons.

Aside from these, there were also special uncanny creatures such as vampires and werewolves.

The Lighthouse Nation had no culture of its own, so its classifications were more or less the same as those of the other two countries.

Hearing himself called a cursed spirit, Feng Tianlin had a rough idea of what was going on, but he was only interested in the box in the demon’s hands.

“What’s inside that box?” Feng Tianlin asked, pointing at it.

The moment he heard Feng Tianlin’s question, the Nightmare Demon instinctively realized that something was terribly wrong. He immediately hugged the box and fled like a streak of smoke.

Feng Tianlin did not pursue him. He simply watched as the demon ran headfirst into the boundary of the uncanny domain and fell to the ground.

Before the Nightmare Demon could climb to his feet, Feng Tianlin appeared beside him again and said in Chinese, “Don’t move.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, an invisible force seized control of the Nightmare Demon. No matter how desperately he struggled, he could not move.

This did not surprise Feng Tianlin. It seemed that his control over uncanny creatures was comprehensive—and mental in nature.

In other words, Feng Tianlin did not actually need to speak his commands aloud. He only had to transmit them. However, his control over this mental power was still immature. He would have to practice more.

The Nightmare Demon, meanwhile, had already fallen into despair. What kind of absurd ability was this? The doll had said only a single sentence, and he could no longer move—and he could not even understand what the sentence meant.

After thinking it over, however, he came to a conclusion.

“It must be a spell!”

Spells were something humans used. Uncanny creatures could not use them. Yet this uncanny creature in front of him clearly could, which left only one possibility: someone had taught him.

The only uncanny creatures that could be connected to humans were those humans had subdued.

But the aura of an uncanny creature controlled by humans was instinctively different from that of an ordinary uncanny creature.

The aura radiating from this doll was that of an ordinary uncanny creature, so the possibility that he was an uncanny creature controlled by humans could be ruled out immediately.

If that was the case, then this doll could only be a witch’s uncanny creature.

Witches were peculiar beings who belonged neither to the human faction nor to the uncanny-creature faction.

That was not because they remained neutral. It was because they offended both sides.

Witches were, in essence, still human, but they acted entirely according to their moods. They might heal the sick and save lives, or they might kill someone for no reason at all.

They had also made enemies of uncanny creatures for two reasons. First, they were fundamentally human, and humans were an inherently hostile species. Second, witches loved collecting specimens of uncanny creatures and training them, turning them into slaves.

Thus, they had offended both sides, and both sides wanted them dead.

Although he had never heard of witches releasing the uncanny creatures they kept and teaching them spells, that was the only possible explanation at present.

While the Nightmare Demon was lost in his wild speculations, Feng Tianlin continued giving orders.

“I’ll ask one question, and you’ll give one answer.”

Once again, the Nightmare Demon could not understand him. That irresistible force surged through him again, and before he could react, Feng Tianlin began questioning him in the language of the Sunset Nation.

“What are you?”

In China, those words would certainly have been an insult. In the Sunset Nation, however, they were essentially asking what race someone belonged to.

Thus, the Nightmare Demon answered reflexively, “I’m an uncanny creature.”

Feng Tianlin helplessly rubbed his forehead. His command of the Sunset language still needed improvement. He changed his wording.

“Are you a demon?”

With such a classic appearance, Feng Tianlin suspected that if the other party denied being a demon, he might have to wonder whether the creature was merely pretending.

Fortunately, the Nightmare Demon admitted it readily.

“Yes, I’m a demon.”

Feng Tianlin nodded and continued, “What’s inside that box of yours?” As he spoke, he pointed at the box in the Nightmare Demon’s arms.

The box was entirely purple, with several incomprehensible patterns decorating its surface.

The Nightmare Demon glanced at the box. His expression struggled for a moment before he answered, “This is a Loldo Demon Box. It’s used to store emotions of terror.”

To store emotions of terror?

Feng Tianlin’s interest was instantly ignited. From the first moment he sensed the terror contained within the box, he had known that it was probably no ordinary object. He had not expected it to be quite this extraordinary.

“A container capable of storing emotions of terror actually exists in this world?” Feng Tianlin exclaimed in shock.

In truth, he was merely ignorant. Containers for storing emotions of terror had long since been thoroughly exploited by the Evil King and Poison Queen. The resurrection altar of the ancient uncanny creatures even possessed the most powerful container of all.

Feng Tianlin reached out to take the so-called Demon Box, but the Nightmare Demon clutched it tightly, clearly unwilling to let go.

“Give it to me,” Feng Tianlin said coldly.

The Nightmare Demon had no choice. He released his grip and handed the Demon Box to Feng Tianlin.

Turning it over in his hands, Feng Tianlin discovered that it truly was a remarkable object. With only the slightest guidance from his own power, he could absorb the emotions of terror inside it.

As he examined it, he continued questioning the demon.

“Are there many of these?”

“Many.”

“Where are they all?”

“In many places.”

Feng Tianlin was speechless.

“How are they made?” he asked, raising his eyelids slightly.

“I don’t know.” The Nightmare Demon’s face was filled with bitterness.

Feng Tianlin nodded, then casually tossed the Loldo Demon Box to Long Mengting.

“Divide the emotions of terror inside among yourselves.”

Feng Tianlin had already reached Class A, while Long Mengting and the others were still Class B. He still needed a great deal more before he could advance further, so it was most appropriate to let them absorb the energy for now.

At that moment, Long Mengting and the others also came into the Nightmare Demon’s view. Seeing so many terrifyingly powerful beings gathered together, he could not stop trembling inwardly.

Looking at the frightened demon, Feng Tianlin continued, “You’re a demon of the Holy Lord Church, aren’t you?”

“Yes.” The Nightmare Demon nodded.

Once this was confirmed, Feng Tianlin immediately deduced the truth. This fellow was nothing more than a lowly hired hand, sent to collect emotions of terror for his superior.

If that was the case, then most of the Loldo Demon Boxes should be in the hands of the Holy Lord Church’s supreme leader. If he wanted to obtain them, he would have to—

Seeing that there was nothing else worth asking, Feng Tianlin dispelled the uncanny domain and looked at the Nightmare Demon.

“I’m taking this thing. Go back and tell your leader to come find me.”

The Nightmare Demon felt as though he had been granted a reprieve. Just as he was sighing with relief, he heard Feng Tianlin’s words and immediately asked, “Where should he look for you?”

Feng Tianlin glared at him. “Where do you think?”

He meant that the man should come here to find him, but the words sounded entirely different to the Nightmare Demon.

The Nightmare Demon thought, This doll belongs to a witch, so he must be telling us to find him at the witches’ place!

He immediately fled as fast as he could, afraid that Feng Tianlin might change his mind.

The moment he left the orphanage, the Nightmare Demon hurried to a brothel and entered one of its rooms.

Inside, a man with a haggard face and deathly pallor lay there, looking as though he had almost no vitality left. Beside him lay a stunningly seductive woman.

When the woman saw the Nightmare Demon enter, she rose unhurriedly and asked, “Aven, what are you doing here? It isn’t time to hand over the Loldo Demon Box yet, is it?”

The Nightmare Demon’s name was Aven. He said anxiously, “My Holy Lord, the witches are going to declare war on us!”

[Note: “My Holy Lord” is an exclamation similar to “Oh my God” or “Good heavens.” It does not mean that this woman is the Holy Lord.]
