Chapter Fifty-Nine: The Kiss
"Xiao Ling is awake! Xiao Ling is awake!" The sudden shout from Wang Ling's mother shattered the strange tension outside the hospital room.
Hearing the news, Blue Sky couldn't be bothered to speak to her father any longer; she hurriedly and excitedly rushed inside.
"Hey! Don't crowd in, the patient needs rest!" The nurse hurried to block them as they swarmed in.
"Alright, you all wait outside. Xiao Ling's mother and I will go in first to check on her," Wang Ling's father nodded, waving Blue Sky and the others out.
Blue Sky felt frustrated but couldn't object; she left with Chen Xiaoxuan, sitting on a chair, craning her neck to peer into the room.
Suddenly, the door opened. Wang Ling's father emerged with a grim expression, looking at Blue Sky, "She wants you inside."
"Huh? What?" Blue Sky didn't react at once.
"I said Xiao Ling wants you inside! Can't you understand words?" His face grew darker, muttering under his breath, "Damn... girls grow up and don't stay, even their fathers are forgotten!"
Entering, Blue Sky saw Wang Ling's beautiful face drained of color, and his heart ached again. Ignoring her mother nearby, he went straight to her, gently grasped her hand, and looked at her in silence, his gaze filled with a thousand unspoken words.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?" Wang Ling felt a little embarrassed by his stare.
Blue Sky shook his head, his voice tinged with guilt and tenderness. "Why are you so foolish?"
"You're the foolish one!" A blush flashed across Wang Ling's cheeks. "It was just an instinct in a moment of urgency, don’t flatter yourself."
"Ahem, Xiao Ling, I'll step out and talk with your father." Seeing her daughter awake and safe, Wang Ling's mother finally relaxed. Watching the two banter, she felt awkward as a mother, coughed softly, and left.
"Look at you! You scared my mom away. She must think there's something fishy between us!" Wang Ling blushed furiously, pouting.

"Hey? Isn't there something fishy between us?" Blue Sky grinned mischievously.
"Ugh! Who's fishy with you?" Wang Ling retorted, shifting her gaze to the hand Blue Sky was holding. "And take your dirty hands off me!"
"No," Blue Sky held her hand tighter.
"Aiya, let go, or my parents will see!" Wang Ling half-pleaded, half-scolded.
"So what if they do? What's the big deal? These days, who hides their relationships from their parents?" Blue Sky still wouldn’t let go, smiling wickedly.
"Ugh, who’s in a relationship with you?!" Wang Ling rolled her eyes, clearly thinking he was being presumptuous.
"Who else but you?" Blue Sky tenderly fixed her slightly messy hair, then his expression grew serious, his voice deep, "You really scared me this time. From now on, just hide behind me."
"I’ll take the bullet for you."
"Who… who says there will be a 'from now on'? You little brat, you’re a year younger than me! It's your big sister taking care of you, don’t let your imagination run wild!" Wang Ling, increasingly embarrassed under his gaze, turned away with a huff.
Blue Sky ignored her shyness, staring deeply at her. "There was a moment when I thought, if you died, my life would lose all meaning."
"Even though we haven’t known each other long, your smile keeps appearing in my mind, I keep wondering where you are, what you’re doing. Whenever I achieve something, you’re the first I want to tell, the first I want to show. I don’t know if this is love, but it’s definitely affection—I’ve already fallen for you."
"This feeling has been lurking in my subconscious for a long time, but never fully formed. Until the moment you fell, all those emotions surged out at once..."
"I was really scared then, scared you would leave me, scared I'd never have the chance to say these things to you, scared you wouldn’t even give me the chance to be rejected..."
"All this time, I wanted to protect the earth, believed I’d become a legendary savior, but in the end, I nearly failed to protect the woman I love, and let you take the bullet for me. I feel like I’m nothing but a joke!"

As Blue Sky spoke, he was soon choked with sobs. That scene of Wang Ling collapsing kept replaying in his mind; he had never felt such despair before.
"What are you talking about, savior? There, there, don’t cry, big sister loves you." Wang Ling’s voice was gentle but puzzled; she reached out and softly wiped the tears from Blue Sky’s face. "Honestly, you just blurted it out like that, not romantic at all! When I recover, confess again properly!"
Blue Sky burst out laughing, "Alright, alright, as many times as you want, I’ll confess them all, okay?"
"Mmm, I’ll reluctantly accept it for now. A grown man, and you don’t even feel embarrassed. No more crying," Wang Ling said shyly, trying to maintain her usual big sister demeanor. Her charming look made Blue Sky stare.
"Actually, I didn’t think much in the moment, just saw Zou Tao point a gun at you and got so scared, I instinctively wanted to push you away. Who knew he’d fire so suddenly? Scared me to death!" Wang Ling admitted bashfully. "I really thought I was going to die."
"Do you regret it?" Blue Sky wiped his tears, feeling a little embarrassed, "I got emotional, the tears just came on their own, not my fault."
Wang Ling burst out laughing at his words, but didn’t dodge the question. Blushing, she answered haltingly, "I don’t regret it, because… I’ve already fallen for that big fool who never takes advantage of others and always shocks me."
Blue Sky said nothing, only squeezed her small hand tighter. Silence settled over the room, but Blue Sky found the quiet comforting, enjoying how their hearts grew closer.
"Why are you staring at me again? You’re making my heart race—be careful or I’ll kiss you!" Wang Ling gazed at Blue Sky’s sharp features, half-dazed, half-joking.
Before she finished speaking, a shadow suddenly loomed, drawing near so fast she had no time to react. Her lips were enveloped by a soft sensation she had never experienced before.
That sensation was utterly enchanting.
