Chapter Forty-Nine: There’s a Bug in This Game!
"Please have the summoner control the Frost Archer to attack the minions with three normal shots," the sweet and gentle voice rang out again.
Upon hearing this, Lan Tian raised his hand to shoot, and immediately noticed the difference between this "Heroes' Glory" and the virtual game he used for training.
In his training game, to perform a shooting action, he had to anticipate everything himself—how high to raise his hand, how much force to use, how to aim—everything was as real as reality. But just now, as soon as he had the intent to shoot, his hands unconsciously moved into a fixed position under the guidance of an invisible force.
After firing two arrows at the minions, he found that he only needed to mentally lock onto the target, and the lock was completed automatically. He did not need to aim; the act of shooting was effortless, and both shots had identical angles and force.
"Hmm, this is much better. If it were like the training game, I doubt many people would play 'Heroes' Glory.' Maybe it would be novel at first, but after attacking for ages and still failing to hit a minion, they'd quickly give up."
Lan Tian nodded to himself. This guided, fixed attack mechanism was actually a blessing for ordinary players.
"Of course it's a good thing. Otherwise, do you expect the players to diligently learn how to shoot? And for mage-type heroes, spells are cast with a mere thought—do you expect them to memorize incantations and practice gestures?" This time, it was Bai's voice, not the sweet one.
"I'm playing here; why are you interrupting? Shoo, shoo." Lan Tian waved his hands as if chasing a fly, then raised his hand again to shoot the final arrow.
The health bar above the minion finally emptied, and it faded away as a shadow.
"Hey, Bai, I didn't expect you to be so considerate. The arrows become virtual when hitting minions, so there's no gore. Not bad, not bad," Lan Tian teased.
"Congratulations, Summoner. You have mastered normal attacks. Next, please try a skill attack." The sweet voice finished, and in front of Lan Tian, a hero identical to himself appeared.
"Just as Bai said, only my facial features were scanned; there was no body data. The height and other physical traits don't match me." Lan Tian looked at the opposing hero and nodded quietly. That was better; otherwise, if everyone had different heights and sizes and a chubby person played an archer, the scene would be ridiculous.
Suddenly his expression turned odd. He called out loudly, "Bai, come out. I've thought of a problem—there's a bug in your game!"
"What bug? If you can point out a bug in a game made by Lord Bai, I'll admit defeat!" Bai, always monitoring the game process, responded with a voice full of displeasure.
"Have you considered that if a male player chooses a female hero, it would show a man's face on a woman's body? That's terrifying..." Lan Tian said with a twisted expression. "And, not everyone is a gentleman..."
"If a male player chooses a female hero and deliberately touches himself... that scene would be utterly obscene..."
"Idiot, I thought it was something serious," Bai scoffed. "Don't worry. How could I not have considered this? There are corresponding heroes for both genders. For example, you're currently the Frost Archer—the corresponding female hero is the Ice Archer, with identical skills. Male players can only play male heroes; female players can only play female heroes."
"I knew it! Otherwise, it would be too indecent. Haha, that's how it should be—completely eliminates the possibility of gender-bending. Back in college, I met plenty of gender-benders in games!" Lan Tian nodded in agreement, a bit contemptuous. "A grown man, how can he shamelessly call others 'husband' in a coy voice in a game? It's disgraceful!"
Shivering, Lan Tian started testing out the skills. Each hero had four skills: one talent skill, two minor skills, and an ultimate. This was similar to "King's Glory." Add in two summoner skills, and every skill's visual effects were dazzling, the attack effects extremely crisp—far superior to any game currently on the market. With the 100% real experience, after Lan Tian tried them all, he was certain that anyone who experienced it would instantly fall in love with the game and become utterly addicted!
"Isn't there a canyon battle? Why did you quit? The AI in my bot mode is nothing like the low-level AI in 'King's Glory.' It might even play better than most of your players. So, are you dissatisfied with this game?" Bai sounded puzzled when Lan Tian didn't continue after testing the skills, but instead exited directly.
"No, on the contrary, I'm extremely satisfied. I feel like soon, players worldwide will go crazy for it!" Lan Tian gave a high praise.
"Then why did you quit?" Bai pressed.
"Of course I'm an exception. The virtual game I use for training is much better than this. I'd rather go fight a few rounds with a Lion Beast—now that's exhilarating!" Lan Tian smiled, finally giving Bai a satisfactory answer.
"That's more like it!" Bai smiled, then added, "Actually, if you hadn't quit, I was about to call you out anyway."
"Why? Is something up?" Lan Tian asked, puzzled.
"Of course. Don't you realize that logging into this game requires a medium? Do you expect me to drag each player into the game one by one?" Bai looked at him as if he were an idiot.
"Ah, right!" Lan Tian was startled. He'd gotten used to Bai dragging him in and out, forgetting that others didn't have Bai around. He quickly asked, "So what do we do? The press conference is tomorrow. What kind of medium are you talking about? Can it be made in time?"
Bai shook his head. "The medium is simple, just a little gadget, but there's no way to make it in one day."
"Are you kidding me... Am I going to make a fool of myself tomorrow?" Lan Tian's face darkened as he complained, "Why didn't you tell me sooner..."
"Are you really that clueless? Don't forget, you have me! Tomorrow, just find a few nice-looking helmets and pretend they're prototypes for the reporters to wear. I'll pull them into the game for the experience. After all, it's just a press conference; the actual product launch can be scheduled whenever you want!" Bai was surprised—how could someone so perceptive be so dense?
Was it a case of extremes meeting?
