Bai Yan shyly covered her head, but Jiang Chengyan's expression was thoughtful.

“There’s someone outside, don’t shout or he’ll hear you,” Jiang Chengyan said, then lifted his foot and stepped out the door.

Bai Yan understood the seriousness and quieted down, happily hugging the big white rabbit as she played.

When Jiang Chengyan reached the entrance, he glanced back at her. Bai Yan didn’t notice, but the rabbit in her arms shuddered involuntarily.

Outside, Zhao Chujio was already growing impatient. Seeing Jiang Chengyan finally emerge, he couldn’t help but complain, “You’re so clingy, and it’s only been a short while!”

“Come help tomorrow,” Jiang Chengyan ignored his grumbling and continued assembling the frame.

The two of them busied themselves all morning, tidying up the entrance at last. Zhao Chujio, an orphan, had known Jiang Chengyan since childhood. Noticing it was already late, he took off his outer robe and headed for Jiang Chengyan’s house.

“I’m eating lunch at your place today. Let’s see how your wife’s cooking is. Didn’t a fat rabbit crash into your door this morning? Let’s have rabbit for lunch.” As he spoke, Zhao Chujio was about to push open the door.

“Go home and eat your own food.” Jiang Chengyan gave him a swift kick, then slipped quickly into the courtyard, shutting the door behind him.

With a loud bang, the door slammed shut, leaving Zhao Chujio fuming and startling Bai Yan inside the courtyard as well.

When Jiang Chengyan looked over, he saw her staring blankly at herself, hugging the rabbit tightly, while the rabbit busily nuzzled her face.

“Is it male or female?” Jiang Chengyan strode over and, before Bai Yan could react, lifted the rabbit by its ears.

“Female,” Bai Yan replied obediently. “Husband, she’s so cute. Let’s keep her, please!”

Jiang Chengyan released the rabbit, and it immediately nestled into Bai Yan’s arms.

“Little one, our family can only have one rabbit.”

“You want to keep her, and she’s female. What if one day she turns into a person too?” Jiang Chengyan asked, “Am I supposed to marry two wives?”

Bai Yan was stunned.

She quickly patted the big white rabbit’s head, and the rabbit reluctantly hopped out of her arms, curling up in a corner, waiting to sneak out after dark.

“Come on, wash your hands and I’ll make you lunch.” The man walked ahead, tall and elegant, his features like sculpted jade. Bai Yan trailed after him like a little tail, her eyes curved in delight.

Jiang Chengyan didn’t want to be careless about the wedding, so after much persuasion, he brought Bai Yan to Madam Li’s house early in the morning.

As soon as she saw Madam Li, Bai Yan, dressed in a bright red wedding gown, called out sweetly, “Godmother!”

When Madam Li saw her face covered in red rashes, her usually stern expression softened ever so slightly.

“Come with me. Ayan, you should head back first,” Madam Li said. As the groom, Jiang Chengyan still had to fetch Bai Yan again in the bridal sedan.

Upon hearing this, Bai Yan pouted and lifted her skirt, about to chase after Jiang Chengyan.

“Two little radishes,” Jiang Chengyan said, lips pressed together, looking at his little bride running toward him.

“All right.” Remembering the little radishes, Bai Yan turned back obediently to find Madam Li.

Husband said Madam Li was a good person, someone she could trust.

Watching Bai Yan leave without a backward glance, it was Jiang Chengyan’s turn to fall silent.

In her heart, was he not even as important as two little radishes?
