Chapter 14: Pregnant???
She really did peck at Jiang Chengyan’s chin like a little rabbit, and for a moment Jiang Chengyan stood there, tall and unmoving, utterly stunned. Seeing that he didn’t react, Bai Yan gazed up at him, wide-eyed and expectant.
“Who taught you this? Hmm?” Jiang Chengyan lowered his head to look at Bai Yan, his sharp gaze leaving her nowhere to hide.
“Don’t you like it?” Bai Yan’s face was full of confusion; the little lambs had always liked it before.
“My dear, stop trying to change the subject.” Jiang Chengyan pinched Bai Yan’s chin, his voice taking on a stern tone.
Even though they had only spent a few days together, Bai Yan understood: whenever Jiang Chengyan called her “my dear,” it meant he was most likely angry.
Seeing this, Bai Yan hurriedly told him, in detail, how she had ended up kissing the lambs just because of a bunch of mushrooms.
Jiang Chengyan stood there, his brows slightly furrowed.
Was he really supposed to compete with a sheep for her affection?
“You’re human now. If you go around kissing people again, your face will break out all over.” Jiang Chengyan knew well that this woman cherished her beauty above all.
As expected, Bai Yan immediately covered her rash-covered face and quickly put some distance between herself and Jiang Chengyan.
“Understood?” Jiang Chengyan pulled her back into his arms.
Bai Yan nodded her head rapidly.
“Then come drink your medicine.” Jiang Chengyan reached out and brought over a bowl filled with a dark, bitter concoction.
Bai Yan: “……”
…
When Zhao Chujie heard that Jiang Chengyan had returned, he quickly put down his work and rushed over, panting.
Just as he stepped into the Jiang family courtyard, he heard Jiang Chengyan’s voice. It wasn’t the kind of syrupy sweetness one might expect, but compared to his usual manner, it was a world apart.
“Pinch your nose and swallow it. I’ll make you radish soup for lunch.”
This man had clearly forgotten that last night he swore she would never have to eat radishes again.
Zhao Chujie listened to Jiang Chengyan, standing in the courtyard, somewhat dazed.
Is he actually serious about this?
“Did you get everything?” He didn’t know how long he’d been in a stupor; by the time he came to, Jiang Chengyan had already stepped out, standing opposite him.
“Hey, brother, are you really getting married?” Zhao Chujie asked, a face full of anguish.
They had promised to stay single together until old age, and now he was secretly falling in love.
“Everything’s ready. Help me contact Chef Zhou from Beitang village and have him come the day after tomorrow to cook the wedding banquet.” With that, Jiang Chengyan strode off.
“Where are you going?”
“To pull radishes.”
Zhao Chujie: “You’re no longer that cold, indifferent brother I once knew.”
Jiang Chengyan ignored him.
“Isn’t it too hasty to settle down so quickly? How can you be sure you won’t change your mind in the future?” Zhao Chujie still felt Jiang Chengyan was being reckless about marriage. He was certain his friend wouldn’t stay in this little mountain village forever, and finding a wife here seemed unnecessary.
“Every step I’ve taken, I’ve never regretted.”
It was true before, and it would be true in the future.
“Ugh!” Before Jiang Chengyan reached the door, his sharp ears caught a sound and he quickly turned, striding back into the house.
Zhao Chujie had obviously heard it too, and hurried after Jiang Chengyan.
In the west room, Bai Yan was bent over the kang, retching miserably. The medicine was unbearably bitter.
Jiang Chengyan lifted his outer robe, sat at the edge of the kang, and gently patted her back.
Outside the door, Zhao Chujie’s face was full of shock: “!!!!” My god, she’s vomiting so badly—is she pregnant? If she isn’t, how is this man, who’s always been a clean freak, tolerating her throwing up all over his clothes?
Dear heavens, Jiang Chengyan is going to be a father?
