Chapter 92: I Refuse to Believe You Won't Get Jealous
Ling Ziheng’s rehearsal went extraordinarily smoothly; in just an hour and a half, he completed every segment. Lu Ran was nearly moved to tears with excitement, endlessly praising him to Lin Zhiwei, “After this rehearsal, I’m totally becoming a fan of Film King Ling. He’s the real deal, an absolute all-rounder. His singing, stage presence—they’re simply divine. Now I understand why our girl is so obsessed. I used to watch his acting in movies and was already amazed, but I never expected him to be so talented in so many ways.”
“Director Lu, you flatter him,” Lin Zhiwei replied, a hint of mockery in her tone. What a fox—pretending to be so proper.
A distant commotion caught Lin Zhiwei’s attention; she frowned, and Lu Ran followed the sound with his gaze. He saw Ye Linyun sauntering over, arm in arm with Chu Chuo, her posture seductive, scolding her assistant who was frantically rummaging through her Hermès bag. The staff nearby wisely kept a three-meter distance.
Lu Ran sighed helplessly. Trouble had arrived so soon—he hadn’t had a moment’s peace.
“If Ruoyu’s rehearsal is finished, let’s leave now,” Lin Zhiwei urged, eager to withdraw. The way Ye Linyun approached spelled nothing but trouble.
Ling Ziheng, meanwhile, remained calm and detached onstage as the staff removed his microphone and wires.
“Alright, thank you for your hard work, Director Lin. Please pass my thanks to Film King Ling,” Lu Ran nodded understandingly.
Lin Zhiwei gestured to Ling Ziheng on stage, pointing at her watch. He got the message.
As Ling Ziheng stepped off stage and the two prepared to leave, Ye Linyun blocked their path. Today she wore luscious red lips, her hair swept up, clad in a deep-cut black dress from C House, exuding irresistible allure. “Ruoyu, leaving already?”
She pressed close to Chu Chuo, desperate for everyone to notice who was at her side.
Chu Chuo’s lips quivered, but he didn’t embarrass her, watching coldly. The culprit who drenched him with wine last time stood before him—he knew someone else would deal with it, saving him the trouble.
Ling Ziheng walked past them as if they didn’t exist. Ye Linyun’s face darkened with anger, though she maintained her usual elegance, delicately fixing Chu Chuo’s collar. “Look at you, your collar’s crooked and you never notice. Always making me worry.”
Chu Chuo rolled his eyes dramatically, barely suppressing the urge to gag.
Ling Ziheng paused, frowning as he glanced back. Ye Linyun’s heart leapt—at last, her ploy was working. Surely, as a man, he’d feel jealous.
Chu Chuo was utterly impressed by her stupidity. If this pitiful trick ever worked, he’d gladly chop his own head off on the spot. Only this woman could come up with such a trashy scheme.
Ling Ziheng’s gaze swept the room, searching for Lin Zhiwei. The person who had just been at his side was nowhere to be seen, but he spotted her in the distance, saying goodbye to several female assistants, who were all smiles and blushing. His expression immediately cooled.
Ye Linyun’s heart soared—she’d spent ages plotting this. Men always have a competitive streak; they can’t stand seeing a woman who once cared for them now favoring someone else. She was about to continue when Lin Zhiwei walked past.
“What is it?” Ling Ziheng asked, looking at the girl, the chill in his face softening, the deep affection in his eyes impossible to hide.
Lin Zhiwei avoided those seductive eyes, coughing lightly as a reminder—two people were still waiting. “Nothing, just chatted with the stage assistants for a bit,” she replied, her tone low and masculine, hands in her pockets, feigning indifference.
Chatted for a bit? Ling Ziheng’s eyes flickered; clearly, she’d been flirting again. The moment he looked away, she was off charming everyone.
He patted her head helplessly. “Don’t wander off.”
Lin Zhiwei felt she might explode. Was Ling Ziheng playing with fire? He was going to get her killed.
She didn’t dare glance at Ye Linyun, feeling as if Medusa’s fury was burning her alive.
Ye Linyun’s face twisted with venom, her beautiful features filled with murderous intent towards Lin Zhiwei. Damn Lin Zhi, their relationship was obviously unusual. Just wait until the first episode airs—I’ll deal with you then.
Chu Chuo watched on, sizing up Lin Zhiwei. He thought, after today, your days of peace are over. You’re her prey now—there’s no escape.
“Let’s go. What do you want to eat?” Ling Ziheng asked gently.
“Anything…” Lin Zhiwei replied nervously, unable to accept her boss’s enthusiasm right now.
The two walked out of the studio, talking.
Ye Linyun immediately switched to her usual fierce self, shouting, “Where’s my water? Are you all dead?” Her apricot eyes swept over the assistants. One immediately handed her the water, trembling.
Everyone in the studio kept their heads down, muttering internally. The day ahead would be rough—Medusa looked ready to erupt.
“Trying to scald me? Get lost!” Ye Linyun snapped, knocking the cup away before even touching it. She pulled out her phone, opening a chat:
Tonight, find a chance to teach Yin Mi’er a lesson.
The reply came instantly: Yes, boss.
Ye Linyun finally relaxed, her face returning to its serene, aristocratic smile. Lin Zhi, for now you’re untouchable, but the little wretch you rescued will suffer.
“Ling Ziheng, you’re going to get me killed,” Lin Zhiwei said indignantly as she climbed into the car. She wasn’t ready to die yet.
Ling Ziheng looked up, puzzled.
“Just now—Ye Linyun was obviously trying to make you jealous,” Lin Zhiwei explained.
Ling Ziheng: “Didn’t notice.”
“Oh come on, they were flaunting their love right next to you. How could you not see that? What were you even looking at?” Lin Zhiwei was exasperated.
“I only saw you,” Ling Ziheng replied softly.
…
Fine, you win. Lin Zhiwei turned her head away. She really just wanted to live a little longer—couldn’t he let her off? Was now the time for flirting? Her palms were sweating from fear. With her shaky status, she’d already angered Medusa; life was about to get tough.
Pei Xi, who had witnessed the scene, thought his young master seemed smitten, not the least bit afraid.
“If Ye Linyun causes me trouble, I’m finished,” Lin Zhiwei sighed, gazing out the window.
“She can try,” Ling Ziheng’s voice was cold and dark, making Lin Zhiwei turn. She saw murderous intent in his eyes, so serious she was left speechless.
Alright, you win… With Ling Ziheng’s power, crushing Ye Linyun would be like squashing an ant—he was only lying low to conceal his strength.
Pei Xi shook his head. They say rage for beauty’s sake, and seeing his young master so determined lately, it looked like he was ready to fiercely protect his wife from now on.
