Chapter 115: I Actually... Drank Myself Under the Table
Having drunk too much last night, Lin Zhiwei had no idea when she had fallen asleep. To her surprise, she woke up in the guest room at Ling Ziheng’s place.
Bewildered, she shook her head and yawned as she walked into the bathroom, only to freeze in her tracks. Her makeup had been removed, and she was even in pajamas... Huh? She had absolutely no recollection of this. When had her tolerance for alcohol become so poor? Moreover, her head was pounding with a splitting ache, and she couldn't remember a single thing that happened the night before.
It felt as though she could have been sold off and wouldn't even have known it.
After a hurried wash, she stepped out of the room. The living room was empty, save for a sticky note left on the table which read: "Yin Mi'er helped you change into your pajamas; she's staying downstairs for now. I took off your makeup. Remember to take your medicine. I’ve gone to the office. Let me know when you're awake."
Lin Zhiwei couldn't help but smile, feeling an overwhelming warmth. This man truly seemed to have the ability to read her mind. He was so thoughtful and respectful, no matter the situation. He could distinguish between her helplessness, her embarrassment, and the vulnerability she rarely showed to others.
Yin Mi'er’s WeChat message arrived just in time: "Weiwei, are you awake? I'm coming up to see you!"
Lin Zhiwei replied: "I'm up, come on over."
When Lin Zhiwei opened the door, Yin Mi'er peered cautiously into the apartment.
"It's fine, your boss has gone to work," Lin Zhiwei said, pulling her inside.
"Phew, that's a relief," Yin Mi'er sighed. "I was worried about disturbing the two of you."
"How could you ever be a disturbance?" Lin Zhiwei winked at her.
Yin Mi'er said helplessly, "Your movie star acts like someone’s about to steal his wife away, so I’d rather not be a third wheel."
"Hahaha, my dear Mi'er is jealous," Lin Zhiwei teased.
"Enough, I’m not joking with you. How are you feeling? Are you any better?" Yin Mi'er asked with concern.
Lin Zhiwei looked blank. "Why would there be anything wrong with me?"
Yin Mi'er quickly pressed her hand against Lin Zhiwei’s forehead. "You don't seem to have a fever. Ugh, you don't know—last night you were perfectly fine and then suddenly collapsed. You scared me to death."
"I... actually passed out from drinking?" Lin Zhiwei couldn't believe it. This was an absolute disgrace. Damn that Nan Yu and the "private stock" he brought back from the Nameless Realm. It must have been low-quality stuff, otherwise, how could she have collapsed after only a few sips?
"As long as you're okay," Yin Mi'er said, finally letting go of the anxiety that had kept her up all night. Seeing the way Lin Zhiwei had collapsed the previous night, it didn't look like a normal drunken stupor; one second she was fine, and the next, she was down.
Lin Zhiwei waved her hand dismissively. "It's nothing. It must have been Nan Yu's wine. My tolerance isn't that bad."
"Sure, keep telling yourself that. Your movie star called almost every top doctor in S City over, and only let them leave after they held a consultation and confirmed you were fine," Yin Mi'er said, glancing at her sideways to reveal what had happened later that night.
"What? Seriously? Was I dead to the world or something... how do I have no memory of this?" Lin Zhiwei was utterly stunned. She had no idea so much had happened overnight. It was simply unbelievable.
"Your movie star was worried sick. Fortunately, Pei Xi is also somewhat skilled in medicine and checked you over for a long time, confirming you were unharmed. After the movie star had me change your pajamas, he stayed by your side the whole time. It looked like he didn't sleep a wink," Yin Mi'er said, wanting to set the record straight for him. If he had spent so much effort taking care of her, he shouldn't go uncredited.
"My dear was really that worried?" Lin Zhiwei raised an eyebrow, though her heart sank. Could her suspicions be correct? Was there truly something wrong with her? But since they had called for doctors and Pei Xi had checked her, there was physically nothing wrong. So, where did the issue lie? Was it in her head?
"Alright, alright, save the public displays of affection for when your movie star gets home. You two can be as lovey-dovey as you want behind closed doors. I’m here to keep you company and brought you some food," Yin Mi'er said, feeling a bit nauseous from the "my dear" comment and quickly calling a halt to it.
"Oh, oh, oh, my Mi'er is so virtuous," Lin Zhiwei chirped, grabbing a slice of bread. Being waited on by a beauty felt absolutely fantastic.
As Yin Mi'er helped her heat up some milk, she reminded her, "Go ahead and message your movie star. He’s asked me several times this morning already."
"Oh, I almost forgot," Lin Zhiwei wiped her hands and immediately sent a message to Ling Ziheng.
Lin Zhi: I'm awake! I feel great. Thanks for your hard work, my dear~ Mwah!
Ling Ziheng was in the middle of a meeting when he received the notification. He immediately signaled to stop the meeting. The executives beside him looked at their boss in confusion, wondering what urgent news could have arrived. Their usually cold and emotionless boss was now staring at his phone with extreme intensity.
In an instant, his expression softened like a spring breeze, and he began to reply with a faint smile. Gone was his usual cold, ruthless demeanor; he radiated a gentle aura. This was undoubtedly the look of someone in love.
That single "thanks for your hard work, my dear" was worth more than anything else in the world.
Ling Ziheng: Get some good rest. Wait for me to come home.
Lin Zhi: Be a good boy in your meeting. Don't worry.
Lin Zhiwei smiled sweetly, as if she could see the man's expression before her eyes, his slightly furrowed brows slowly relaxing.
"Alright, stop swooning. By the way, remember to reply to Nan Yu, too. He didn't sleep all night either, waiting for news," Yin Mi'er said, handing the milk to Lin Zhiwei.
"Damn, he's the one who made me pass out..." Lin Zhiwei grumbled, picking up her phone reluctantly.
Lin Zhi: I'm fine now.
Nan Yu immediately called her back. "Linzi!! How do you feel? Are you dizzy, nauseous, or feel like vomiting?"
"Enough, enough, I'm not pregnant. I just passed out from drinking..." Lin Zhiwei rubbed her ear, extremely annoyed by the agitation on the other end. It was such a small thing, was it really necessary?
"Don't change the subject, tell me quickly," Nan Yu, who hadn't slept all night, was sitting upright at home, nervously clutching an orange.
"I'm fine, what could possibly be wrong..." Lin Zhiwei rolled her eyes. "Your vintage collection is just too powerful."
Seeing that there was no response from Nan Yu, a strange feeling flickered in Lin Zhiwei’s heart. "What's wrong?"
"Uh... nothing. Linzi, your tolerance is getting worse and worse. Call me if anything happens. You scared me to death. I haven't slept all night, I'm going to catch up on some sleep," Nan Yu said, yawning before hanging up.
As soon as he dropped the casual tone, Nan Yu’s face turned cold and anxious. Given Linzi's tolerance, how could she have been rendered completely unconscious by a few sips of aged wine? He feared it was...
He opened a dust-covered contact on his phone and dialed it, his tone filled with unprecedented reverence. "Lord, I have a situation to report..."
