Chapter 116: Director Lin, You Owe Me Some Face
Page 1/3
Lin Zhiwei luxuriated in the rare tranquility of the morning: with a beautiful companion by her side and delicious food within reach, what more could one ask for? Moreover, with two weeks left to prepare for the next season of "Masked Versatile King," she had more than enough time.
"ViVi, I don’t think Ye Linyun will give up so easily. Last time... those people who came after me were probably sent by her, right?" Yin Mier looked at Lin Zhiwei with concern, holding back her worries for a while before finally speaking up.
"It was her, but don’t worry. I’ve got this. Her little tricks are all within my scope of handling," Lin Zhiwei replied lightly, as calm as a breeze.
"But... last time they targeted me. If they make a move this time, it will definitely be against you," Yin Mier’s delicate features knitted together in unease and worry.
"Come on, baby, do I look that easy to bully? How else would I survive in the entertainment industry without some preparation?" Lin Zhiwei winked at her and pointed to her vibrating phone. "Look, here she comes."
The call was from Ye Linyun’s assistant, Zhu, who had exchanged numbers with Lin during rehearsal.
Yin Mier gripped her hand, signaling her not to answer.
Lin Zhiwei gave a reassuring expression, cleared her throat, switched to a man’s voice, and answered, "Assistant Zhu, how can I help you?"
"Director Lin, sorry to bother you. Sister Yun hopes to invite you to dine at the Jade Pavilion this Saturday evening. She sincerely hopes you can honor her with your presence. You know, she’s always been concerned about Emperor Ling’s situation and hopes you can assist her," Zhu said with a hint of guilt. She knew Ye Linyun was planning to make a move against Lin Zhi, but this was her job and self-preservation was paramount, so she laid it all out.
"Hand it over," Ye Linyun impatiently snatched the phone, shooting Zhu a glare and silently cursing her uselessness. Then, she spoke with a faintly chilling tone, "Director Lin, you owe me some face here."
Lin Zhiwei narrowed her eyes. "Queen Ye, you flatter me. I will certainly honor the invitation."
"Good. Don’t be late," Ye Linyun’s lips curled into a triumphant smile as she hung up, immediately pouring herself a glass of whiskey, thinking, "Lin Zhi, you are finished."
Lin Zhiwei continued calmly nibbling on her bread, while beside her, Yin Mier was as anxious as ants on a hot pan. "ViVi, she invited you to the Jade Pavilion? That’s Chu Chuo’s territory!"
Lin Zhiwei raised an eyebrow. "I know. She’s put together quite a thoughtful trap."
"I’m not joking. You really should tell your Emperor."
"Hmph, if this little matter needs my darling to step in, I’m way too weak," Lin Zhiwei said with a mysterious smile as she calmly contacted Nan Yu.
Lin Zhi: This Saturday evening, Jade Pavilion.
Nan Yu: Already restless? Fine, let Grandpa’s Green Dragon Crescent Blade take a satisfying swing.
Lin Zhi: Take it easy, leave some life in me—I still have uses.
Nan Yu: Roger!

"Done," Lin Zhiwei shook her phone with ease, continuing to chew on her bread as if nothing were amiss.
"Ye Linyun knows a lot of people in the underworld. Back then... she sent those people to kidnap me," Yin Mier’s mind flashed back to a dark and painful past, tears held back fiercely.
Lin Zhiwei took her hand. "Don’t worry, Mier. From now on, smooth sailing awaits you."
"I’m not worried about myself. I’m worried about you," Yin Mier said earnestly, sitting upright with grave seriousness.
"Heh," Lin Zhiwei smiled gently. "I’m just waiting for her. Been prepared for a while. No worries."
Seeing Lin Zhiwei’s confident demeanor, Yin Mier felt a bit reassured. She recalled how Lin had rescued her without alerting Ye Linyun’s men, clearly with a solid plan. This time would surely end safely as well.
"So... are you going to tell your Emperor?" Yin Mier pressed on.
"Well," Lin Zhiwei tapped her chin thoughtfully. "I suppose I should."
"And do you think he’ll agree to you taking this risk? Judging by how he dotes on you, I think he’d rather charge in with a knife himself."
"Hahaha," Lin Zhiwei laughed until she was breathless. After spending several days with them, even Yin Mier had learned to joke.
She patted Yin Mier’s shoulder gently. "We have some unspoken understanding. He knows I don’t like being caged. My goal is the stars and the sea."
"Uh..." Yin Mier was caught off guard, unsure whether to envy or worry.
But Lin Zhiwei’s words struck a deep chord. To have such a man by her side—one who understood yet trusted her—when would she encounter such a person herself?
Ling Ziheng quickly wrapped up his company affairs and ordered Pei Xi to prepare the car to go home, anxious to see his beloved wife.
When he opened the door, he saw Lin Zhiwei standing on one leg, her hands pressed together as she applied a face mask while doing yoga, utterly content.
Seeing him return, she immediately peeled off the mask and flew into his arms. "You’re back!" Her face was dewy and fresh, her big eyes sparkling adorably.
Pei Xi wisely stayed outside.

Ling Ziheng took off his coat and embraced the radiant girl before him, scrutinizing her carefully. Seeing she was truly fine, he asked, "Feeling alright?"
"Of course," Lin Zhiwei answered resolutely.
"Good," Ling Ziheng suppressed the words he wanted to say next: how he wished he could drop everything to be with her.
"Pei Xi ordered dinner. It’ll be delivered soon—all light dishes you like," she added.
"Ah... I was actually planning to cook a few dishes myself," Lin Zhiwei murmured pitifully, though her cooking skills barely extended beyond throwing things into a stew.
"Next time. You’ve just recovered," Ling Ziheng said warmly, his heart melting like honey.
"Alright, then you’ve taken care of me all night. I feel so bad."
"Then say ‘darling’ one more time," Ling Ziheng’s eyes gleamed as he wrapped his arm around her waist, his expression gentle.
"That’s limited edition—can’t just use it anytime," Lin Zhiwei smiled proudly, then added, "Oh, by the way, Ye Linyun contacted me today."
Ling Ziheng’s expression darkened slightly. "She invited you?"
"Saturday evening at the Jade Pavilion."
"Pei Xi!" Ling Ziheng called, and Pei Xi promptly entered.
"Hey, hey, no need for the chief steward yet. If you all start moving now, my acting won’t be so easy," Lin Zhiwei quickly stopped the angry man.
"Got it. I won’t stop you, but with Pei Xi here, your safety is guaranteed," Ling Ziheng explained hurriedly. Though he didn’t want her to take risks, he knew she wouldn’t want to be constantly restrained, so he had to let her be.
"Understood. Thanks for the hard work, Chief Steward," Lin Zhiwei smiled brightly, nodding in gratitude toward Pei Xi.
Pei Xi replied, "The food has arrived. I told them to bring it up."
