When the woman’s name was spoken, everyone was stunned.

“An… An Lan?”

“You mean the heiress of the An family, that powerful financial dynasty?”

“How could it be her? And she’s being so respectful to that useless man?”

They glanced at each other, faces filled with awe.

It was common knowledge that the An family was once an insignificant, barely-known clan. But ever since An Lan had taken over, in just three short years, the An Corporation’s market value had multiplied twentyfold. She had vaulted her family to the pinnacle of the city’s financial elite.

People joked that she was a woman even the gods could not attain.

Not only was her business acumen astounding, but her beauty was of such rare grace that even other women felt inferior in her presence—no one could stand comparison.

“I see,” Ye Wushang murmured, understanding at last. She must be the granddaughter of the “big brother” Grandmaster Sheng had mentioned.

He had said he would visit personally later, but for her to come in person now suggested the old man’s illness was grave.

“Miss An, I will treat your grandfather’s illness. But right now—”

“Mr. Ye, there’s no need for you to trouble yourself with these trivial matters. I’ll handle them,” An Lan interrupted, glancing up. Instantly, her dozen bodyguards understood and moved as one.

One group began to drive away Captain Yang and his men. These were elite security, and their very presence was intimidating enough to quell any resistance. The patrol officers dared not protest, backing away in silence.

A second group swiftly surrounded the workshop, sealing it so tightly not even a fly could slip through.

“Mr. Ye, I’ll have someone repair the pillar of your family’s workshop shortly,” An Lan said. “Until you give permission, no unauthorized person will touch a single thing here. Please, come with me.”

She bowed slightly in courteous invitation.

Ye Wushang nodded. Saving a life was urgent, and with her bodyguards present, Sun Chuanlong and his lot would not dare make trouble. Just as he was about to follow An Lan into the car, Lan Ruoshuang, having recovered from her shock, suddenly shouted, “Who do you think you are? You think you can just give orders here?”

“I’ll have you know, this workshop now belongs to the Lan family! We’ll do whatever we want—”

Smack!

Before she could finish, a resounding slap landed on her face.

“If you dare utter another word, I’ll cut out your tongue,” An Lan growled, her eyes fierce and predatory, enough to make Lan Ruoshuang’s body tremble and nearly collapse.

Without another glance, An Lan opened the car door for Ye Wushang and drove away in style.

“Are you all blind?” Lan Ruoshuang cried, clutching her stinging cheek, on the verge of tears. “You just watched that woman hit me! And then you let them leave—”

Captain Yang could only sigh helplessly. “It’s not that we wouldn’t help, it’s that we don’t dare. That was Miss An from the An family—we can’t afford to provoke her…”

“And you think you can afford to offend my Sun family?” Sun Chuanlong bellowed, the outburst worsening his injuries until he was writhing in pain.

Lan Ruoshuang quickly supported him, soothing, “Don’t be angry, Long, let me get you to the hospital first. Once we’re done, I’ll call my sister and she’ll get revenge for us!”

At the city hospital, in a VIP ward.

“Ruoshuang, I have to say, the workshop was left to Wushang by his mother,” Lan Ruoxue said as she looked at the heavily medicated and sleeping Sun Chuanlong, her brows drawn in a frown. “I even asked Assistant Xu to call you and stop the demolition. Why didn’t you listen?”

Enraged by the memory, Lan Ruoshuang snapped as soon as her sister reproached her, “Whose side are you on? Are you even my sister?”

“I did get the call from Assistant Xu. I told the workers to stop when that useless man arrived. But I just needed a little time to tidy up, and that idiot started yelling and causing a scene. Long got annoyed and argued with him, and then he just started beating us! Look at what he did to Long!”

Lan Ruoxue shook her head. “From what I know of Wushang, he isn’t the type to lose his temper. He must have been provoked by something you said—”

“Lan Ruoxue!” Lan Ruoshuang stood, voice rising. “What are you implying, that you don’t believe me? There were plenty of witnesses, even Captain Yang from the patrol. He can attest that it was that useless man making trouble!”

“Assistant Xu already checked the scene before coming here, you can ask her if you don’t believe me!”

With that, she shot a look at Xu Wei.

Xu Wei nodded in understanding. “Yes, Director Lan, I was at the scene. The crowd and Captain Yang can both confirm it! That useless man caused the commotion, assaulted Young Master Sun, and even called a woman to back him up. If the crowd hadn’t intervened, Young Master Sun’s injuries could have been far worse!”

Lan Ruoshuang’s face darkened. Could it really be Ye Wushang’s fault?

Was it because of the divorce, unable to handle the blow, that he lashed out at her family in revenge?

Sun Chuanlong and Ruoshuang were already discussing marriage, and the group’s business depended greatly on the Sun family's support. Hitting Sun Chuanlong was clearly an act of retaliation.

“Ruoshuang, just take care of Chuanlong. I’ll handle this matter,” Lan Ruoxue said, standing to leave.

Lan Ruoshuang, gently tending Sun Chuanlong’s wounds, pleaded, “Sister, you must get revenge for me and Long! That useless man is out of his mind—maybe you should use Grandpa’s secret bath formula against him…”

“Ruoshuang!” Lan Ruoxue raised her voice, signaling her to stop. She waved her hand and led Xu Wei out.

She knew Ye Wushang’s health was poor. Whenever it rained, his illness would flare up, and only the bath formula given by her grandfather could alleviate it. She didn’t know the cause, but it was the only thing that helped. Though they were divorced, her feelings lingered; she didn’t want to resort to such threats.

“Director Lan, let me send someone to bring that useless man back and make him apologize to Young Master Sun and Miss Ruoshuang,” Xu Wei offered, pulling out her phone.

But Lan Ruoxue stopped her. “There’s no need. There must be some misunderstanding…”

“Misunderstanding?” Xu Wei scoffed. “So many people saw it. How could it be a misunderstanding? Besides, even if there was a misunderstanding, couldn’t it be talked out? Instead, he resorted to violence and injured someone so badly. I think he’s just bitter over the divorce and is taking revenge. You can’t go soft on men like that, or he’ll just cause more trouble later.”

Indeed—no matter how big the matter, it should be discussed calmly. Resorting to violence was no better than a beast.

“I’ll call him first,” Lan Ruoxue decided. After all, they had once been married; she wanted to hear his side.

She quickly dialed Ye Wushang’s number.

Meanwhile, in the backseat of a luxury car, Ye Wushang sat with his eyes closed, resting. When the ringtone sounded, he reflexively took out his phone. Seeing the caller ID, he hesitated, then answered.

“Did you really hit someone?!”

Before he could say a word, a furious voice exploded from the other end of the line…
