Fu Mingyue suspected that it was Ji Yunti who had Ji Yunfan compete with him for Li Susu’s affection. The thought processes of the two men were surprisingly “in sync”...

“Ji Yunti, you’re even more scheming than I thought.”

Fu Mingyue’s face darkened, no longer feeling guilty, and he strode angrily back toward the inpatient ward.

Before him, Li Susu, who had said she was going to the restroom, had actually returned to Ji Yunti’s hospital room.

After having her wounds treated and changing into her hospital gown with the nurse’s help, Ji Yunti sighed quietly, feeling utterly exhausted in both body and mind.

Seeing Ji Yunti’s face and neck covered in ointment, Li Susu couldn’t help but glance at her forehead. The tarot master from her previous life had said that only disfigurement on the forehead would affect a cultivator’s fate; the face and neck were supposedly harmless.

“What are you back for?” Ji Yunti asked, her voice soft yet carrying a coldness that kept others at bay.

Li Susu looked at her, trying to sound gentle. “Whether you believe me or not, I truly mean no harm.”

“Fu Mingyue’s not here—still pretending?” Ji Yunti shot back.

Li Susu was taken aback. “Pretending what?”

She had resolved to play the part of the good person in front of Ji Yunti, no matter what.

Only if she gained her trust would it be easier to do what she wanted with her.

“Yunti, I know you misunderstand me deeply because of my relationship with Mingyue, but I sincerely hope you won’t be hostile toward me.”

“If you really care about me returning to China, once I’ve finished what I came for, I’ll leave immediately. I swear I won’t ruin your marriage to Mingyue!” Li Susu promised earnestly.

Such sweet words... and sworn with such conviction.

Had it not been for the tragic experiences of her previous life, Ji Yunti might have believed her.

“All right then, swear on it—if you break your oath, may thunder strike you down and a hundred ghosts haunt you.”

Ji Yunti’s tone was calm, but to Li Susu’s ears, it sounded like thunder crashing, making her tremble!

Still, she quickly suppressed her fear, her eyes reddening as she said, “You really don’t trust me. Then swearing won’t help. In any case, time will reveal a person’s true heart.”

After speaking, Li Susu bowed deeply at a ninety-degree angle and remained there, waiting for Ji Yunti to forgive her, filled with genuine sincerity.

Ji Yunti averted her gaze, looking out the window. The sky had darkened unknowingly; heavy clouds gathered, and a solitary bird flew by, isolated and alone...

She slowly rose, limping to the window, opened it, and looked at the lone bird.

Li Susu’s back was aching from bowing so long, and hearing no response from Ji Yunti, she straightened up.

She happened to see Ji Yunti turn around, her back to the gloomy sky outside. By chance, a beam of light filtered through a thinner part of the cloud, casting a glow upon her.

Li Susu was stunned...

Under the Tyndall effect, the light encircled Ji Yunti’s figure like a divine halo, making her radiate brilliance—a striking contrast to the dark clouds behind her.

“Four years ago, if you hadn’t been so superficial and materialistic, if the Fu family hadn’t gone bankrupt, if you hadn’t remarried and gone abroad, Fu Mingyue wouldn’t have married me. So, when I married him, I was actually grateful that you abandoned him.”

“I didn’t...” Li Susu tried to explain.

“Let me finish,” Ji Yunti interrupted, her tone gentle but firm—no room for argument.

Li Susu instinctively fell silent.

Ji Yunti continued, “Although I have parents and siblings, I am essentially an orphan. The happiest years of my life were the ten years growing up alongside Fu Mingyue in Nanshan Village.

We attended elementary and middle school together until the summer after the high school entrance exam. Then my grandfather passed away, and Fu’s grandfather took me and Fu Mingyue back to Yuncheng. I went home; Fu Mingyue returned to the Fu family.

Before I experienced the stirrings of first love, I always regarded Fu Mingyue as my older brother. He was very kind to me. Anyone who insulted me as a fatherless and motherless bastard got thoroughly beaten by him. So naturally, when I finally realized my feelings, I liked him.”

Recalling the past, Ji Yunti sighed.

Her romantic feelings were not born of mere infatuation—it was during her most vulnerable childhood and adolescence that Fu Mingyue was her steadfast protector and comforter.

So, upon discovering her feelings for him and realizing he liked Li Susu instead, she was heartbroken but never thought of marrying Fu Mingyue herself.

It was Li Susu who abandoned Fu Mingyue. Only then, at the suggestion of Fu’s grandfather and with Fu Mingyue’s consent, did Ji Yunti marry him when the Fu family was at its lowest.

“I know, I’m sorry! I didn’t know you and Mingyue were childhood sweethearts. I never intended to abandon him. My previous marriage was also an arranged alliance; I had no say. Besides, my health was poor then—I really had no choice. I was wrong.”

Li Susu looked remorseful and guilty. “Don’t worry! Once my affairs in China are settled, I will leave the country and never return for the rest of my life!”

“I’m telling you this not to let you make things easier, but to show you that my marriage to Fu Mingyue was not something I begged for. He agreed himself; the Fu family elders consented. That’s why I married him. I won’t cling to him desperately.

I don’t care what reasons made you leave before—that’s irrelevant. Since Fu Mingyue likes you, I’ve already signed the divorce papers. I will leave and let true lovers be together.

I only hope you stop coming after me. I don’t want to see you anymore.” Ji Yunti, unaware that Li Susu was also a reincarnator, sought to test her.

If Li Susu’s intentions were solely about Fu Mingyue, Ji Yunti had made herself clear—she would not compete with her.

But if not...

Ji Yunti’s eyes flickered subtly.

Recalling the bowl of soup spilled on her face earlier and Li Susu’s obvious attempts to make her drink it, she began to harbor suspicions.

Li Susu, however, did not know that Ji Yunti could “see” she was a reincarnator. Although in her past life Li Yunti had given her the spiritual eye, it was not her own and wasn’t as effective; it only enhanced her fortune but could not “see” beyond that.

Thus, Li Susu was unaware that Ji Yunti’s spiritual eye could perceive one’s fate and even “rewind” or “preview” visions.

Still, Li Susu was clever. Though she didn’t know Ji Yunti was testing her, she caught the resoluteness behind Ji Yunti’s words and, thinking it best not to push things further, nodded. “Fine, if I’ve made you this uncomfortable, I’ll leave.”

Ji Yunti was a little surprised—had she misjudged?

Then Li Susu added, “Regardless, I apologize again for the harm I caused you before.”

Even now, still pretending?

Ji Yunti’s gaze darkened. Suddenly, she asked directly, “You seemed really eager to make me drink that soup?”

Her sharp eyes caught every subtle expression on Li Susu’s face upon hearing this.
