Ji Yunci’s heart instantly panicked. She had only lost consciousness for a moment—could her eye really have been gouged out? Trying to raise her hand to touch her eye, Ji Yunci found herself too weak to complete the movement. With all her strength, she could only move a finger slightly. The overwhelming weakness and the burning pain in her eye filled her with panic and sudden regret over her decision to jump. She should have endured a little longer. But even if she had wanted to endure, with Li Susu’s abilities, Fu Mingyue would have surely forced her to the brink of jumping, and in the end, it would still have been her fault. She only wanted to take the initiative... At least to hold the upper hand in public opinion—was that too much to ask?

No!

Ji Yunci slightly shifted her gaze. Although the pain was still intense, it was not the same as after her eye had been gouged. Her panicked heart slowly began to calm. After a moment, she opened her eyes again. The light entering her eyes was still piercing, but there was no blood. Her vision was somewhat blurred.

"The young madam is awake," the caregiver politely said.

Ji Yunci looked toward her—she could see the features clearly, yet it was as if a light mist separated them. She didn’t know why. Just as she was about to ask the nurse, she heard the voice of Butler He: "Young master, madam is already inside."

"Good." Fu Mingyue was the first to get into the car and then pulled Li Susu up as well.

Before the paparazzi who had just received the news from afar could get close, Butler He hurriedly closed the car door, and the driver immediately started the engine.

Li Susu had not settled yet when she threw herself into Fu Mingyue’s arms, and he held her tightly. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, thank you," Li Susu replied, just in time to meet Ji Yunci’s gaze directed at her, which startled her. She quickly sat properly.

Fu Mingyue noticed the change and looked up, only to see Ji Yunci’s cold, dark eyes filled with bloodshot veins and hidden murderous intent. His heart thudded sharply. "You—"

Ji Yunci closed her eyes as if she had lost all hope and had no desire to look any further.

The caregiver hung her head, too afraid to speak or look around.

Fu Mingyue took a deep breath. "Yunci?"

Ji Yunci remained silent. The anesthesia was still in effect, and she was somewhat drowsy, but she did not trust the people around her, so she kept a thread of consciousness.

Fu Mingyue saw her tightly shut eyes and pale face and chose not to disturb her further.

Li Susu was truly frightened and hesitant to speak, her eyes lowered as if lost in thought.

The road was smooth, and after more than half an hour, the Fu family’s old mansion came into view.

This was an upscale villa district where paparazzi could not enter, so there was no need for extra precautions.

As the mansion’s gates opened, Mrs. Fu came out from inside. "Why are you just back? Your father has been waiting a long time."

"Auntie," Li Susu greeted confidently. "Sorry for the sudden visit; I hope you’ll forgive the intrusion."

"Susu is here too!" Mrs. Fu looked over Li Susu’s bright and generous demeanor with satisfaction. "There’s no intrusion between our families—we’ve been close for generations. Come in quickly. When did you return? Why didn’t you tell me in advance? I could have prepared your favorite dishes."

"Auntie," Li Susu stepped forward quickly, like a swallow returning home, and embraced Mrs. Fu. "You remember what I like? I’m sorry—I should have insisted more back then. I’m sorry..."

"Let’s not dwell on the past," Mrs. Fu suppressed a trace of displeasure. "Come inside."

"Okay." Li Susu nodded firmly. "I prepared a gift for you. Wait a moment, I’ll go get my luggage."

"You even brought a gift?" Mrs. Fu was surprised.

"Of course! I remember how much you like KAGAMI’s crystal. Fortunately, I had some contact with their designer abroad, and he specially designed a vase for you. You’ll love it."

Li Susu’s affectionate and cheerful explanation immediately dispelled Mrs. Fu’s slight dissatisfaction, her eyes lighting up. "You’re so thoughtful."

Given the Fu family’s current wealth, buying crystal pieces from that brand was easy, but having a designer create a custom piece was rare and truly thoughtful.

Mrs. Fu was very pleased, especially with Li Susu’s generous and straightforward demeanor, which was a thousand times better than her rural daughter-in-law.

Without even glancing at Ji Yunci, Mrs. Fu took Li Susu by the hand and entered the house, only saying to Fu Mingyue, "Go quickly to your father’s study—he’s waiting."

"Okay." Fu Mingyue looked back at Ji Yunci, who was being carried out, and approached her. "Stop pretending to sleep. Get up."

Ji Yunci knew there was no avoiding it and slowly opened her eyes. The pain had mostly subsided, but the misty vision remained.

Seeing her clear gaze, Fu Mingyue subconsciously relaxed and reached out his hand.

But Ji Yunci grabbed the caregiver’s shoulder and slowly got off the stretcher.

The caregiver immediately handed her a cane. "One of your legs has some bone fractures. It’s been plastered, so walking is difficult."

Ji Yunci nodded and, using her healthy left hand, leaned on the cane, attempting to walk but feeling weak.

Yet she did not look at Fu Mingyue’s hand. Instead, she said to the caregiver, "Please help me. I haven’t fully regained my strength."

The caregiver, perceptive, glanced awkwardly at Fu Mingyue’s outstretched hand.

Fu Mingyue grew impatient. "What are you trying to do?"

Ji Yunci looked at him quietly. Her deep, calm gaze immediately extinguished Fu Mingyue’s irritation. He frowned. "I’ll help you."

"No need. Young Master Fu isn’t good at taking care of people, and I’m afraid you’ll drop me again," Ji Yunci refused and then looked back at the caregiver. "In this state, I can’t afford to get hurt again, right?"

The caregiver nodded quickly and supported Ji Yunci.

Ji Yunci moved toward the old mansion but stopped at the doorway.

Fu Mingyue paused beside her. "What is it now?"

"Grandfather—don’t let him see me like this," Ji Yunci said, not wanting to worry the old man.

"He should be arranged somewhere," Fu Mingyue recalled what Ji Yunfan had said earlier and warned, "Grandfather hasn’t been well lately. Don’t keep bothering him and causing unrest at home."

That was unfair—she had never complained to Grandfather Fu, always reporting good news only.

But she didn’t bother to explain. With the caregiver’s help, she sat in a wheelchair.

Fu Mingyue waved the caregiver aside and pushed the wheelchair himself. Just as they were about to enter the elevator, Fu’s father’s voice called down from the second floor, "Since Susu is here, she should come up too."

Li Susu was momentarily stunned, her expression slightly flustered.

Mrs. Fu immediately held her hand. "Don’t worry, I’ll accompany you upstairs."

"Thank you, auntie," Li Susu said gratefully.

The two then entered the elevator together with Fu Mingyue and Li Susu.

Only then did Mrs. Fu glance at Ji Yunci with disdain, immediately frowning. "How did you end up looking like this? You’re becoming more and more unpresentable! Look at Susu, then look at yourself—where is there even a trace of a noble lady?"

Ji Yunci remained calm. Mrs. Fu’s disdain was nothing new; she had long since grown accustomed to it.

No—in her previous life, she had cared deeply. Her already insecure and sensitive heart had become even more humble under Mrs. Fu’s relentless manipulation.

"Mom, it’s not like Yunci wanted things to turn out this way," Fu Mingyue suddenly spoke up.
