Chapter 6: Adding His Friend Back

He obediently reviewed Li Yunchu’s report.

“It’s not a serious problem, just needs some rest,” Xu Yeqi said. Having examined many patients, he knew a minor sprain like this didn’t require hospitalization.

But when he looked up, he found a tall, upright man staring coldly at him.

Xu Yeqi shivered involuntarily. “Dr. Pei, there really isn’t much wrong. You can safely take Miss Li home.”

He finished speaking and gave Li Yunchu a sly smile. “Miss Li, if anything comes up after you get home, feel free to contact me anytime. Do we still have each other on WeChat? I saw you shared a song on your Moments.”

Li Yunchu didn’t dare raise her head. Except for those utterly repulsive, disgusting men she detested, she usually wouldn’t delete contacts. It wasn’t because she kept them as backups, but because she would only delete them after a month to avoid seeming rude.

The only exception was Siye Pei.

Li Yunchu couldn’t quite explain why, but she felt there was absolutely no chance for anything between her and Siye Pei. He was undeniably handsome, excellent in every way, with a great physique. Yet his casual demeanor, the way he smoked, suggested he was dissatisfied with her and deliberately acted indifferent.

She sighed and deleted him that very day.

Unexpectedly, less than a week later, she had to add Siye Pei back.

“Th-thank you,” she stammered.

She wasn’t sure how Siye Pei had helped her out, but she was too embarrassed to ask him to carry her, so he simply supported her.

Well… “supported” was putting it mildly.

He practically lifted her up, and Li Yunchu had never felt so light.

She was still dazed when she got into the car.

“Dr. Pei, actually…”

“Add me back. I’ve helped you so many times today…”

After he spoke, Li Yunchu hurriedly replied, “I’ll treat you to a meal, Dr. Pei. And I’ll add you back as a friend.”

She knew gratitude was due.

Seeing the young woman so proactive, Siye Pei’s expression finally softened a bit.

Li Yunchu noticed he didn’t seem angry and breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

“Don’t contact him,” Siye Pei suddenly said as he drove.

The young woman was stunned, then realized he must be referring to Xu Yeqi.

“Every time he brings a different girlfriend to the hospital. As a doctor, I feel obligated to warn you,” Siye Pei said.

“Seeing him with so many women, you might catch something. He’s fine, but a girl’s physiology is delicate…”

Li Yunchu’s face paled.

She had little experience with love and was frightened by his words.

“Really, Dr. Pei? The agent told me he’s been single all his life.”

Li Yunchu’s tone was full of surprise.

Siye Pei smirked. “Single all his life doesn’t mean outside the womb, too.”

Li Yunchu suddenly understood. So that’s it!

She would never contact Xu Yeqi again!

She deleted him immediately.

The young woman was terrified of getting sick. You really can’t judge a book by its cover, though he wasn’t exactly handsome either…

“Dr. Pei, thank you for warning me.”

Li Yunchu looked at him gratefully. She vowed never to judge by appearance again!

Dr. Pei was not only good-looking but also kind.

She smiled sweetly at him.

Siye Pei raised an eyebrow. The young woman was so easily swayed.

In truth, he made the whole story up. He didn’t really know how many women Xu Yeqi had dated but often saw him with different girls at the hospital cafeteria.

Though this was unethical, if Xu Yeqi dared snatch the girl right in front of him, he wouldn’t be polite.

Li Yunchu limped back home.

Both her mother and Siye Pei’s mother had already returned.

They were chatting cheerfully, commenting on how well the two kids got along and even went out for a walk.

It seemed like there was hope for a match between the families.

Then they saw Siye Pei supporting Li Yunchu.

Her mother quickly rose. “Yunchu, what happened?”

She was worried and anxious seeing her daughter injured.

“I accidentally fell,” Li Yunchu said with a bitter smile. “Luckily, Dr. Pei took me to the hospital.”

Siye Pei’s mother helped Li Yunchu onto the sofa. “That’s what men are for, to take care of you.”

Her ears flushed.

Siye Pei looked down and saw the young woman’s fair neck and the tips of her ears reddened.

Was she shy?

He was the one blushing!

A smile curved Siye Pei’s lips. He looked away, trying to suppress it, but couldn’t help stealing another glance at her, smiling again.

After repeating this silently twice, he finally regained his composure.

Li Yunchu was oblivious to the man’s expression beside her. Wearing a jacket and long pants, she felt overheated on the way home.

Fortunately, Dr. Pei’s car had air conditioning.

The temperature at home was bearable.

“Auntie, Yunchu’s injury isn’t too serious. A few days’ rest will do. Please don’t worry.”

Now, Li’s mother viewed Siye Pei favorably. Knowing the Pei family well, she was confident her daughter would never suffer grievances if she married there.

When she grew old, she could leave this world in peace.

She just didn’t know what Yunchu thought.

“Thank you, Siye. We owe you. Otherwise, this clumsy child would probably be crying on someone’s shoulder.”

Li Yunchu wanted to hide her face in her lap.

After Siye Pei and his mother left, Li’s mother sat beside her and asked, “What do you think of Siye?”

Li Yunchu expected this question.

Dr. Pei was great, but she wasn’t ready for marriage yet.

“We’re not that familiar,” she said, biting her lip, her words awkward.

Li’s mother knew her daughter wasn’t satisfied yet.

“Yunchu, no one in this world is perfect. Siye is excellent in every way…”

“Mom, do you just want me to get married? I want to stay with you. Please don’t keep pushing me to marry!”

Li Yunchu muttered softly.

Her mother was a little upset. “Not marry? Of course I want you to stay with me, but how many years do I have left? What will you do alone in the future?”

Her eyes reddened. “If I don’t see you have a stable family, I won’t be able to rest even after I’m gone!”

“Yunchu, you’re our only daughter. Even if I stay with you now, I can’t be with you forever. Please listen to me and get to know Siye.”

Li Yunchu turned her head. “I understand.”

She felt too awkward around Dr. Pei. “Just like before, I have blind dates every week anyway. It’s become a habit.”

Her mother sighed. “Do as you wish, but keep it in your heart.”

Li Yunchu coaxed, “Mom, I’m like this already. Please stop nagging me!”

Back in her room, Li Yunchu took the initiative to add Siye Pei as a friend.

He accepted almost instantly.

She thought for a moment, then sent a message:

“Dr. Pei, are you free next weekend?”
