Chapter 18: So, My Wife Really Does Smell Divine

Li Yunchu felt her body hair sticking uncomfortably against her skin as she showered. She found herself repulsive just by looking at it, but unfortunately, she hadn't brought her hair removal cream or epilator today. What was she supposed to do?

Looking at the hair on her limbs, she summoned her courage and tugged at a single strand, but the pain caused the young woman’s face to contort in agony.

"Hiss..."

She saw that the patch of skin where she had plucked the hair had already turned red. If she were to pull all of it off, she would end up looking like a boiled, plucked monkey. The young girl was on the verge of tears. Her movements in the shower were mechanical. Who could save her? She had just gotten married, and now she was caught in such an embarrassing situation. If she left an impression like this... she reckoned she would be a widow in name for the rest of her life.

Li Yunchu sighed. After showering, she put on her short-sleeved pajamas, but she couldn't bring herself to leave the bathroom. If she walked out with all this body hair, she felt she might as well move to another planet. Although Pei Siye had seen the hair on her body when she registered for her appointment, seeing a patient as a doctor was completely different from a husband seeing his wife!

Li Yunchu sat on the small stool by the vanity, looking utterly miserable. She shouldn't have agreed to her mother so easily; she should have insisted on not coming to stay at Pei Siye’s place tonight. A newlywed wife covered in body hair... who could stand that? Even Li Yunchu herself couldn't stand a husband covered in body hair. She admitted that she was a young girl with a heavy burden of vanity right now.

Just then, a knock sounded at the bathroom door.

"Haven't you finished yet?" The man’s voice paused before he continued, "Do you need any help?"

Li Yunchu’s face flushed bright red. "I... I..." She really didn't know how to explain it.

"Chuchu." The man stood at the door, unsure of what might have happened to the young girl inside. He reasoned that since they were already married, it should be fine to call her Chuchu. "Are you missing something?"

"Dr. Pei..."

The young girl’s voice drifted from inside the bathroom. Pei Siye heard her calling him Dr. Pei again. If only she would call him husband. He longed to hear her soft, obedient voice call him that.

"I’m here." He almost blurted out, "Tell me, baby." He decided to wait a little longer, until she could accept him more.

"I... I haven't removed the hair on my arms and legs..." Li Yunchu’s voice carried a hint of a sob. "But I didn't bring any hair removal cream, and I don't know what to do."

Hearing her choked-up voice, Pei Siye’s heart tightened. So, the reason she hadn't come out for so long was because she had forgotten her hair removal cream and was too embarrassed to emerge? Silly girl.

"I have some here. Come out first; there's no need to hide in there." Pei Siye’s tone was very gentle, as if he were coaxing a child.

Li Yunchu bit her lip. "Dr. Pei, could you bring it to me? I... I don't want to come out like this."

Pei Siye paused. "I'll go get it."

After he returned with the cream, he knocked on the door again. The young girl only opened a crack. Pei Siye looked at the sliver of a gap and chuckled. "What if you slip and fall while rinsing off after applying it? Are you dressed?"

Li Yunchu pursed her lips. "Yes, I am."

"Do you need me to steady you?" Pei Siye’s statement didn't sound like a question.

The young girl pouted. Such a private matter... if Pei Siye saw her, wouldn't she lose all her dignity? But as he said, what if she slipped and fell again? Her mother was still in the hospital, and she wouldn't be able to take care of her if she were injured. After much deliberation, Li Yunchu hardened her heart. Forget it. Pei Siye had seen her before anyway. If he found her repulsive, at most, they just wouldn't have a... a marital life. What was there to be afraid of? Besides, she was actually a bit scared of that anyway. It was better than breaking her back!

"Sorry to trouble you, Dr. Pei."

Li Yunchu opened the door, clutching her arms tightly. Pei Siye didn't look directly at her. Of course, he wouldn't be disgusted by his own wife, but he could tell she was self-conscious; if he stared at her arms and legs, she would likely feel even more uncomfortable.

Li Yunchu sat on the small stool, and Pei Siye stood at the doorway with his back turned to her. "Apply it first. Call me when you need to rinse, and I'll hold you while you wash it off yourself."

Hearing this, Li Yunchu felt relieved. She had been worried he would keep watching her, but thankfully, he didn't. She hurriedly applied the cream to her legs and arms.

Pei Siye listened to the movements behind him, picturing the scene of the young girl applying the cream. His Adam’s apple bobbed. The person he loved was right behind him, and she was only wearing pajamas. Pei Siye had loved her for so many years; this was the first time they were alone together in a bedroom. It would be abnormal if he didn't have any thoughts at all. He could clearly smell the scent of her body wash. So, his wife really did smell this good.
