Chapter 14: That Scoundrel

The man’s flawless face drew closer. He had taken off his jacket and was wearing only a thin silk shirt, with two buttons undone. The movement made the contours of his chest muscles almost fully visible.
Just as he was about to kiss her, Song Yin suddenly raised a hand and pressed it against his chest.
Her chest was still rising and falling unevenly from the palpitation she had just experienced.
She steadied herself. Her lashes trembled as she asked, “Third Master, you aren’t married, and you don’t have a girlfriend, do you?”
Lou Yizhou caught her wrist and moved her hand aside, then leaned closer and regarded her with interest for a moment.
Their breath mingled lightly. The only sound beside them was the rain.
After a while, he curved his lips and said in a careless tone, “You only thought to ask me this now? What is it? Do you still think the child upstairs is my illegitimate daughter?”
Song Yin pressed her lips together. “If you have a wife, I can’t be that kind of person.”
They were a man and a woman alone together, and she was on a bed with him—
“But we’ve already kissed. Aren’t you asking a little late?”
…
Song Yin had indeed asked too late.
In the car, she had simply lost her head. She must have been bewitched by Lou Yizhou’s face.
A trace of embarrassment crossed her features. “It isn’t too late to ask now. After all, we only kissed once.”
Lou Yizhou studied her again for a moment. Then, as though he had suddenly lost all interest, he returned to the armchair and sat down, folding his hands as he looked at Song Yin.
Under the dim light, his gaze was as sharp as an eagle’s.
After several seconds of silence, his deep voice rang out. “Why don’t you tell me, Yin Yin, why you gave up your recommendation for postgraduate study back then?”
“You investigated me?”
Song Yin sat upright like a startled bird.
She had overlooked the fact that Auntie Wang had brought her a silk camisole nightdress. As she sat up, one strap slipped from her shoulder, leaving one side of her snow-white softness almost within easy reach.
It was difficult to ignore. At least for any normal man.
Noticing Lou Yizhou’s gaze, Song Yin belatedly realized what had happened. She lowered her eyes, and in an instant pulled the quilt around herself, covering the springtime beauty beneath.
Lou Yizhou did not deny her question in the slightest.

The moment Lou Yizhou decided to have Song Yin come to Blue Mountain Villa that night, he had someone investigate her.
There had been too little time, so they had only uncovered some basic information and had not yet had the chance to look into matters more deeply.
He said mildly, “Since I asked you to come here, I can’t know absolutely nothing about you. Aside from your outstanding professional abilities, a great deal of what I learned about you opened my eyes.”
For a man of his standing, investigating her was effortless.
At that moment, Song Yin stood before him as though she were naked.
“Since you’ve already investigated me, Third Master, why ask me?”
“There are always things an investigation can’t uncover. You might as well tell me yourself.”
Song Yin retorted, “My professional services do not include revealing every private detail about myself. After all, Third Master and I have no real relationship.”
“I accepted Third Master’s money and came here to help. I believe I completed my task quite well. If Third Master feels he paid too much, I can return the money. And I hope you won’t come looking for me again.”
As far as he could remember, hardly anyone had ever dared speak to him like that.
Someone had actually dared to confront him so brazenly.
Lou Yizhou leaned back, crossed one leg over the other, and let his posture go slack. Raising his eyelids, he asked unhurriedly, “Finished?”
…
When Lou Yizhou looked at her like that, Song Yin’s heart tightened, and she realized that she had acted too impulsively.
How had she dared to behave this way on Lou Yizhou’s territory?
What if he really decided to silence her? He could bury her body in the back garden, and no one would discover it for ten or twenty years, right?
She swallowed and spoke in a cowardly voice. “F-Finished.”
“Nothing you said seems unreasonable. But…” His tone shifted, and he continued lightly, “Between you and me, I am the one who makes the rules. If you’re dissatisfied, then you’ll have to endure it.”
“…”
He was the very image of a tyrant.
Song Yin adjusted the strap beneath the quilt.
Then she threw off the covers and climbed out of bed.
She failed to notice that her slippers were on the other side of the bed. Her bare feet landed directly on the soft carpet as she prepared to retrieve her clothes, put them on, and leave.
However, she had overlooked one problem.

The clothes were far too form-fitting.
And her figure was far too alluring.
A waist where there should be a waist, hips where there should be hips—her proportions were enough to make a man’s blood run hot.
And the man before her was perfectly normal.
Just as Song Yin’s hand was about to reach her clothes, the ground vanished beneath her. Someone had lifted her and thrown her over his shoulder in a single motion.
Song Yin was badly frightened and tried to struggle.
Lou Yizhou, shamelessly, brought one hand down hard on her buttocks.
The blow was not light.
The spot burned with pain.
Damn bastard!
Song Yin cursed him silently.
Lou Yizhou tossed her onto the bed. Fear rose in her heart. “Third Master, are you planning to force yourself on me?”
He braced one hand beside her body, trapping her beneath him.
“I’m not married, and I don’t have an official girlfriend. As for the women outside who are rumored to have some ambiguous connection with me—unless the rumors go too far, I usually can’t be bothered to pay them any attention.”
His tone was lazy, yet his voice was deep and melodious. In the stillness of the night, it seemed to flow through her heart like a slender stream.
“What?”
Song Yin felt like an absolute idiot. She had heard him perfectly clearly, and she understood exactly what he meant beneath his words.
“You clearly understood me.”
He reached out and gently kneaded her earlobe, making the gesture especially suggestive. His gaze locked onto hers as he drew closer without a sound, like a leopard stalking its prey.
