Chapter 3: Becoming the Healer of the White Tower
The man before her had short white hair, a tall and handsome figure, and wore a sharp black military uniform as he nervously held her hand. His demeanor was gentle and refined, with golden eyes that shone like warm sunlight.
Seeing Wen Li’s lack of response, worry nearly spilled over in his gaze. Softly, he spoke, “Xiao Li, I am your brother.”
Brother?
The doctor quickly interjected, “Miss Wen has undergone reverse purification; her mental consciousness may have some issues.”
Upon hearing this, Wen Jinnian grew even more restless and stood up, intending to take Wen Li home to recover.
In the midst of the chaos, Wen Li clutched her head in pain as a memory not her own suddenly flooded her mind—fragmented and swirling like tides, unfamiliar feelings washing over her.
After an indeterminate time, Wen Li endured the fusion of memories and came to understand her current identity.
She was the eldest daughter of the Wen family, and before her stood her adopted brother.
Her father was the head of the Southern Military District of the Federation, and her mother one of the Federation’s finest guides.
With a family like this, Wen Li could not comprehend why she was in such a sorry state. She had hoped for a quiet, lazy life, but that seemed impossible now.
Originally a diligent office worker who enjoyed playing with furry creatures and had never done anything cruel, how had she suddenly come to this world?
Wen Li sighed silently, unwilling to respond to the concerned faces before her.
“I’m fine, brother,” she said.
Wen Jinnian keenly sensed his sister’s poor mood and reached out to stroke her golden hair.
“Xiao Li, shall we go home?”
Wen Li had no desire to return; she thought it better to serve at the White Tower—it would allow her to support herself.
According to the memories, the original Wen Li was a prodigy born into the Wen family and one of the Federation’s most promising guides.
Tragedy struck during her coming-of-age ceremony when terrorists disrupted her spiritual summoning, causing a backlash that left her disabled as a guide.
Afterward, her mother disappeared, her father was severely injured, and she became the family’s scapegoat.
Her father deliberately ignored her, and her sister harbored resentment—her life worsened.
In a cruel twist, she was kidnapped again during her sister’s coming-of-age ceremony.
Then Wen Li arrived.
Looking up with a pale face, she told her brother, “I don’t want to go home. I want to go to the White Tower.”
Her words nearly broke Wen Jinnian’s composure.
He forced a casual smile but his eyes remained gentle as he asked for his sister’s thoughts.
“Xiao Li, the White Tower has many unruly sentinels. It would be safer to stay at the clubhouse.”
Wen Li shook her head firmly, insisting on going to the White Tower.
The doctors present were pleased—a new outstanding guide had joined the Federation.
Only Wen Jinnian could not rejoice.
He knew what it meant for his sister to enter the White Tower.
She would come into contact with many exceptional sentinels, and there would be increasing intimate interactions.
His sister would purify those damn sentinels, and they would enjoy her gaze and touch!
How could he not know the filthy hearts of those sentinels? And as her brother, he would be forgotten.
Three days later, the Wen family received a letter from the White Tower.
Wen’s father sighed, as if ten years had been added to his age.
Still... could the truth not be concealed?
The next day, Wen Li packed her luggage. Neither her father nor sister came to see her off—only Wen Jinnian accompanied her.
On the plane, Wen Jinnian went over precautions.
“Xiao Li, if anything happens, you must tell me, understand?”
Wen Li nodded.
Suddenly, Wen Jinnian hugged her tightly.
Wen Li tried to struggle, but a suppressed whisper came from her brother’s lips.
“Just for a moment. Just a moment.”
After landing, Wen Li was taken away by a designated person; Wen Jinnian could only watch her retreating figure one last time.
Waiting to pick her up was a man in a black suit exclusive to White Tower sentinels—tall and long-legged, resembling a model from a high-end mall.
Most striking was his hair, fading from black to white from top to bottom.
He wore a single electronic lens and held a clipboard, his expression stern.
With a professional tone, he said, “Hello, Miss Wen. I am Ban, your life assistant.”
Ban extended a gloved hand to Wen Li.
She shook it briefly and withdrew immediately.
“Hello, I’m Wen Li,” she replied.
Ban led her to the service department’s reception room on the 70th floor.
Wen Li knew she was about to meet the leadership and rehearsed possible conversations repeatedly in her mind.
“Wen Li, don’t be nervous! Don’t be nervous!”
Seated upright on a leather sofa, she awaited the questions.
A tall man with dark green military uniform and long hair sat behind the desk, leafing through Wen Li’s files with his head lowered.
Dark green eyes scanned the young woman sitting before him.
His deep voice reached Wen Li’s ears.
“A disabled guide from the Wen family.”
Wen Li clenched her fists but answered calmly.
“Yes, my name is Wen Li.”
The officer paid no heed and continued leafing through the documents.
Only the sound of paper rustling filled the office.
His gaze paused at words describing the spiritual backlash and the now complete spiritual entity—a large blue flashing butterfly, a healing type.
He raised an eyebrow in surprise. No wonder so many wanted me to protect her.
A healing guide, indeed.
Setting the files down, he stood.
Wen Li felt a shadow fall before her.
She looked up at the man.
His chiseled face and dark green eyes were cold and serpent-like.
Wen Li told herself to remain calm, not to be overwhelmed by her boss’s presence.
To receive good treatment, one must be bold!
“I am currently an A-level guide, and I believe I am qualified to serve as a healer at the White Tower.”
Angus seemed amused by her words.
He bent down, gently brushing aside the sweat-dampened golden hair at her neck, slowly stroking her snow-white skin.
So tender, like tofu, turning red after just a few strokes.
Delicate!
Wen Li felt a tingling itch at her neck, as if a snake had slithered over it.
The atmosphere grew intimate, transforming a recruitment meeting into something extraordinary.
Angus gazed dreamily at her profile, speaking words that chilled the heart.
“Miss, don’t forget, you are a disabled guide.”
Like a thunderclap, Wen Li’s face flushed deeply.
She had asked the doctors, and the White Tower’s invitation confirmed her qualifications.
How could this be...
The blush on her cheeks only pleased Angus more.
Unbeknownst to him, his spiritual entity had appeared, coiling beside Wen Li’s neck.
Wen Li lowered her head, her white eyes meeting the dark serpent that stood upright on her neck.
“Wen Li!!?”
Angus also looked at the little snake in puzzlement.
Why had his spiritual entity manifested?
Without changing his expression, he left, sinking into the office chair, showing no intention of removing the snake.
Wen Li and the serpent stared at each other, wide-eyed.
Angus watched the girl’s tense body, daring not to move.
Silently smiling, he said, “Miss Wen, according to White Tower regulations, disabled guides are not eligible for service.”
Wen Li cared little about whether she got the job; right now, she just wanted him to take the snake away!
At last, the little serpent moved, slowly winding down Wen Li’s arm, its scales brushing against her pale, tender skin, sending shivers through her.
Just as Wen Li was about to lose her composure, Angus finally withdrew his spiritual entity.
