Wen Li was utterly speechless inside. What on earth was this?

But as a guide, she could not be so irresponsible. After confirming the information, Wen Li had no choice but to begin purifying Cyril.

She first brought him a cup of homemade fruit tea.

As someone from the future, Cyril naturally had no idea what it was. Curious, he took a sip.

The fresh fragrance of fruit blended with the rich aroma of tea, creating a delicate flavor that instantly awakened his taste buds.

For once, Cyril offered a compliment. “This is pretty good. Could you bring me some, little guide?”

Wen Li lifted her chin slightly, unable to hide her pride. “No way. It’s my exclusive recipe. If you sold it, wouldn’t that make you rich?”

Cyril set down his teacup and shook his head at the girl’s smug expression.

He rose and pulled the little guide in front of him, making Wen Li straddle his thighs.

An ambiguous atmosphere spread between them.

With one hand supporting Wen Li’s slender waist, Cyril slowly leaned toward the girl whose face had flushed red as a shrimp.

“Shall we begin the purification?”

A shy blush had already spread across Wen Li’s cheeks, as radiant and delicate as peach blossoms blooming in spring.

Her hands instinctively tightened around the hem of her clothes, her fingertips paling under the pressure.

She stammered, “Purification is fine, but what are you doing?”

Inside, she was screaming: Too close! Far too close! How can he be this handsome?

The genes of people from the future had all been carefully selected, to say nothing of the elite among humanity—the sentinels.

This was the first time Wen Li had ever been so intimate with someone. For a moment, she was so embarrassed that she did not know what to do.

Their gazes met by accident, panic and shyness flickering in Wen Li’s eyes.

A peculiar light ignited deep within Cyril’s red eyes. The corners of his lips lifted slightly, carrying a faint, teasing smile.

“Little guide, haven’t you ever held anyone else like this?”

As he drew closer, Wen Li could feel the heat between them steadily rising.

The White Tower’s uniform consisted of a skirt suit, and because of the rain, the stockings covering Wen Li’s calves were slightly damp today.

Cyril seemed particularly fond of those stockings clinging wetly to her legs. His gaze remained fixed on them.

The sentinel pressed the restless girl downward, forcing Wen Li to settle completely onto his strong, powerful thighs.

Her face flushed crimson. Since she could neither fight him nor overpower him, she could only curse him. “Cyril, you disgusting pervert! Let go of me!”

Watching Wen Li flail like a carp, Cyril obediently stopped making any further advances, though he still did not release her.

“All right, little guide. I won’t tease you anymore.”

The man stopped narrowing his eyes and revealed his blood-red irises.

Wen Li had never seen his eyes from such a close distance. They were beautiful, like rubies.

Cyril narrowed his eyes again, his smile deepening.

“Little guide, do you like me that much?”

Wen Li lowered her head and prepared to purify him.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Let’s begin the purification.”

She had originally intended to enter Cyril’s mental sea and eliminate a portion of the contamination, nothing more.

Anything beyond that would have been meaningless.

After all, she was merely a crippled A-rank guide.

Her abilities were limited.

Wen Li released her mental power and entered Cyril’s mental sea.

A desolate glacier stretched across the world like a silent silver continent. Endless ice fields lay between heaven and earth, devoid of even the faintest trace of green life.

In the distance, ranges of ice peaks and ravines rose and fell in countless strange forms, like sculptures forgotten by time, radiating boundless desolation and solitude.

The bitter wind howled past, its mournful cries seeming almost like sobs.

Wen Li felt nothing but endless cold gnawing into her.

Cyril’s mutation index had already reached eighty-nine percent, and patches of contamination had accumulated throughout his mental sea.

When she raised her flickering arm, Wen Li discovered that her mental projection was beginning to dissolve.

Why?

Was Cyril rejecting her?

On a distant snowy slope, a completely white fox hid itself among the snow.

Its fur blended perfectly with the landscape. Only after looking closely could one make out its blinking blue eyes.

Sensing fluctuations in mental power, Wen Li noticed the little creature.

The snow fox narrowed its eyes just like its master, apparently convinced that it could hide itself.

Wen Li nearly laughed herself to death.

She crouched down, packed a snowball, and deliberately threw it at the fox.

The little creature was struck and shrank back.

It shook the snow from its head, then opened its eyes and stared at Wen Li.

Black markings naturally ringed its eyes, while its blue irises gleamed like polished gems.

Wen Li could not help wondering whether its master also had blue eyes.

She approached cautiously, but the little fox seemed extremely wary and turned to leave at once.

Wen Li hurriedly reached out and called, “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. Let big sister hold you, all right?”

The little fox stopped, but still did not come any closer. Wen Li could only stand there, staring wide-eyed at it.

Another hurricane erupted within Cyril’s mental sea. Pure white snow was swept into the air, blurring Wen Li’s vision.

She raised an arm to shield herself from the wind and snow. When she lowered it, the snow fox had already vanished.

This was the first time since beginning her work that Wen Li had encountered a spirit so afraid of guides.

What exactly had Cyril gone through to make him so resistant?

Wen Li walked through the storm for a long time, clearing away a small portion of the contamination.

When she sensed that her mental power had been depleted, Wen Li chose to leave.

The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Cyril staring blankly at her face with an impassive expression.

As soon as he realized she was awake, he immediately narrowed his foxlike eyes.

“Little guide, did you have fun?”

What was that supposed to mean?

Wen Li angrily turned her head away. “Is a guide’s purification just a game to you?”

Cyril chuckled. His vividly red lips curved upward as he reached out and interlaced his fingers with hers.

Wen Li pulled backward. “Let go!”

Cyril shamelessly tightened his grip on their joined hands.

“No.”

Furious, Wen Li punched him with her free hand.

She had no idea what that gesture had triggered in him, but his laughter only grew more delighted.

The hand at her waist tightened, forcing Wen Li forward until she was pressed close to him.

Just as Wen Li thought Cyril was about to do something utterly outrageous, he merely leaned toward her with unexpected gentleness.

Their foreheads touched, and the world fell utterly silent. Only their breaths mingled softly between them.

Cyril was transmitting his mental power into Wen Li’s mental sea.

His formidable power surged like a vast, turbulent tide, continuously nourishing her damaged mental sea.

The field of violets was bathed in his mental power. One by one, the flowers that had been drooping straightened, their colors growing increasingly vivid.

When Cyril’s first wave of mental power faded, the once-lively violets gradually returned to their original, lifeless state.

When a guide’s mental sea suffers erosion and severe damage, the guide becomes disabled.

At Wen Li’s coming-of-age ceremony, the terrorists had dealt a devastating blow to the spirit that was just about to emerge, causing her mental sea to come under attack.

She had nearly died from a cerebral explosion.

Even now, Wen Li remained a disabled guide, and this was the aspect for which she endured the most criticism.

Within the Federation, disabled guides were rare to begin with. Moreover, no one knew which category of people they should belong to.

Thus, everyone’s attitude toward the status of disabled guides had always remained delicate.
