Chapter 10: How Dare He, Gu Hanchen?
She reluctantly got into the car.
Throughout the journey, she kept pondering how to find an excuse to get off.
Unfortunately, Han Chen Gu didn’t give her a single chance.
“Address.”
With no other option, she resorted to her old trick again: “To the office.”
The man glanced at her, his eyes tinged with curiosity.
Fangyu Gu pretended not to notice.
When they arrived at the company’s entrance, this time she was wiser; instead of immediately stopping the car to escape, she went upstairs.
After sitting in the office for half an hour, she finally set off again.
Fangyu Gu had arranged to meet Qiqi Jiang at a café near the hospital.
When she arrived, Qiqi had already been there for a while.
Seeing her, Qiqi quickly waved her over, “Over here.”
Before Fangyu Gu could sit down, Qiqi asked, “Why are you only just here? Did something happen?”
“Yeah.” She set down her bag and explained, “Han Chen Gu drove me here. I was afraid of being seen.”
Qiqi looked at her with concern and handed over the warm milk she had ordered in advance. “I got this for you; it’s warm.”
Fangyu Gu stared at the warm milk, momentarily stunned, feeling somewhat out of place.
Every time they went out before, she always ordered coffee.
“You can only drink this now,” Qiqi said, seeing through her hesitation, speaking firmly. “Now, you finally have to tell me—whose child is this?”
Fangyu Gu lowered her eyes, her grip tightening slightly around the cup.
“At this point, you’re still protecting her!” Qiqi couldn’t help but scold, visibly upset. “Do you think Han Chen Gu knows you’re pregnant?”
“What are you planning to do about the child?”
“The Gu family is like a pack of wolves, and Han Chen Gu is the fiercest among them. To protect Yao Gu, they can’t tell right from wrong. It’s already hard enough for you to live there alone, and now with a child, do you think the family would even tolerate it?”
These questions weren’t unfamiliar to Fangyu Gu.
“Qiqi, I can’t keep this child.” She looked up, her face resolute.
Qiqi’s next words caught in her throat.
“You… have you thought it through?”
Fangyu Gu’s fingertips whitened with the force of her grip. “I have.”
She couldn’t bring herself to tell Qiqi who the father was, for if the child were born, it would be a secret that couldn’t see the light of day.
How could society ever accept a child born to a brother and sister?
Even if there was no blood relation between them.
She hadn’t intended to drag Qiqi into this, but at this moment, she couldn’t think of anyone else who would help her.
“Since you’ve decided, don’t worry about the rest. I’ll handle everything.” Qiqi reached out and gently held her hand, lending her strength.
Fangyu Gu felt a sting in her nose, a surge of unshed emotion.
Over the years, no matter how Han Chen Gu tormented her, no matter the pain, sadness, or injustice, she had never dared to show it.
Only in front of Qiqi did her forced strength falter.
“But if Han Chen Gu finds out, he won’t let you go,” Fangyu Gu voiced her worry.
Qiqi was unfazed. “What’s there to fear? I’m not afraid of him. Besides, if I can’t handle it, Old Jiang is there. No matter how much of a bastard Han Chen Gu is, he wouldn’t dare disrespect his elders.”
“And anyway, what right does he have to be angry? It’s not even his… child.” Qiqi’s voice trailed off.
Suddenly, she covered her mouth, eyes widening.
Fangyu Gu knew she had guessed.
Qiqi read something in her expression: “So, the child you’re carrying… is Han Chen Gu’s?”
She nodded faintly.
“Is he insane?”
“Is he even human?”
“How dare Han Chen Gu!”
Furious beyond control, Qiqi stood up, ready to storm out and confront Han Chen Gu.
Fangyu Gu quickly grabbed her arm. “Don’t go.”
Qiqi instinctively tried to pull away but then recalled the baby in Fangyu Gu’s belly. The force she used just moments ago instantly softened.
Her eyes reddened as she looked at Fangyu Gu, filled with sympathy. “How could he do this to you?”
Qiqi had never imagined what kind of inhuman treatment her sister endured when unseen.
“He didn’t mistreat me.” Fangyu Gu guessed her thoughts and hurried to explain.
“You don’t need to defend him.” Qiqi’s voice quivered with emotion. “Getting you pregnant—that’s mistreatment enough.”
Fangyu Gu’s expression darkened, lips pressed tight in silence.
In truth, she didn’t know how to comfort Qiqi.
Back then, when she refused to acknowledge herself as a daughter of the Gu family, Han Chen Gu suddenly burst into her room and took possession of her.
Overnight, her parents were no longer parents, her brother no longer a brother, and her fiancé became her sister’s fiancé.
She had felt sadness, injustice, and despair.
But she endured it all.
“Has Han Chen Gu noticed?” Qiqi wondered, recalling how they’d been caught twice during checkups.
Fangyu Gu thought for a moment, then shook her head. “No, I managed to deceive him.”
“We can’t keep this child,” Qiqi decided firmly. “I’ll have Old Jiang cover for us. No matter what, we can’t let the baby be born.”
Fangyu Gu understood the gravity of the situation.
Qiqi squeezed her hand tightly. “Fangyu, you can’t be soft-hearted. Otherwise, you’ll be stabbed in the back. The world won’t accept a child born like this.”
“I know. But if it involves you and Uncle Jiang, I just can’t bear it.” Fangyu Gu’s worry was evident. “You know how ruthless Han Chen Gu can be when he loses control.”
“Stop talking nonsense. Do you think I see you and the Jiang family as separate? Do you think I just met Han Chen Gu today? I understand him at least as well as you do.” Qiqi said confidently.
Seeing her insistence, Fangyu Gu realized it was too late to distance herself from the Jiang family.
If Han Chen Gu were to blame her in the end, for the sake of the friendship between the Gu and Jiang families, he probably wouldn’t go too far.
Qiqi rubbed the back of her hand and suggested, “Don’t overthink it. The urgent matter now is to terminate the pregnancy before Han Chen Gu finds out. He’s too clever; it’s only a matter of time before he discovers the truth.”
Fangyu Gu lowered her gaze to her still-flat abdomen, her eyes betraying a complex mix of emotions.
After a moment, she looked up. “Help me arrange it, the sooner the better. But I can’t use your family’s doctor.”
She paused, then explained, “In Jiang City, everyone wants to curry favor and build connections. Who’s to say someone doesn’t have ulterior motives? So, for medical staff, please help me contact specialists from other provinces. There should be enough money in this card.”
On the surface, it was for her own sake, but in truth, she hoped that if everything came to light and Han Chen Gu found out, it would be because the people involved weren’t connected to the Jiang family, and he might show some leniency.
After all, she didn’t want her own situation to cause Han Chen Gu to lash out at the Jiang family.
Qiqi glanced at the bank card Fangyu Gu handed her, her heart aching once again.
She understood perfectly, and Fangyu Gu’s words showed it had been planned long ago.
“All right, wait for my news. The soonest will be in three days. I’ll get my old man to handle it no matter what. We’ll definitely get this done for you.”
