Volume One, Chapter Three: Encounter with the Primordial Qilin, Journey to the Starry Sky
After obtaining the Yin-Yang Banana Tree and the twelve Sea-Calming Divine Pearls, it seemed that Lin Yang had exhausted his good fortune.
From then on, he found no other treasures within Mount Buzhou.
Of course, by treasures, it meant anything that could truly catch Lin Yang’s eye at this moment.
Some rare materials and precious herbs were still somewhat common in this era, so Lin Yang picked them up casually and temporarily stored them inside his Chaos Gourd.
Having searched Mount Buzhou for an indeterminate length of time, Lin Yang grew somewhat weary.
“Perhaps it’s time to leave. But if I leave Mount Buzhou, where should I go next?”
Lin Yang now faced a dilemma—where should he go from here?
In the current Wild Era, apart from powerful beings like Hongjun and Luo Hou who lurked in the shadows, the world was ruled by three great clans: the Dragon Clan, the Phoenix Clan, and the Qilin Clan.
The Dragon Clan, kings of scales and armor, controlled the Four Seas; the Phoenix Clan, kings of the birds, held their ancestral lands in the Southern Immortal Fire Mountain, thus dominating the southern region of the Wild Era continent.
As for the Qilin Clan, kings of beasts, they occupied the northern half of the Wild Era land.
So, the seas, the land, the skies—all were controlled by these three clans. Yet Lin Yang’s eyes suddenly brightened—beyond the terrestrial domain and the Four Seas, there was still the vast starry sky!
Perhaps he could venture into the stars. Even if no great opportunities awaited him, he could hardly come away empty-handed.
With this plan in mind, Lin Yang resolved to leave Mount Buzhou.
Although Mount Buzhou served as the celestial pillar connecting heaven and earth, it was shrouded in the overwhelming pressure of Pangu’s might.
Therefore, he could not directly ascend from Mount Buzhou into the starry sky; he had to leave first.
“It’s a pity I didn’t find the Twenty-Four Grade Heavenly Lotus, nor the birthplaces of Fuxi and Nuwa. As for the Twelve Ancestral Witches, forget it—I can’t even penetrate the depths underground.”
Lin Yang shook his head. Despite being a time traveler with much foresight, knowing something and being able to utilize it were two very different matters.
He departed Mount Buzhou.
But just as Lin Yang stepped out, a streak of fleeing light flew toward him.
As it neared, Lin Yang instinctively sensed a dangerous aura.
Who was it?
Within the fleeing light was a vague figure. Lin Yang couldn’t make out the details, which meant this person’s strength was extraordinary, certainly not inferior to Lin Yang—perhaps even stronger.
Moreover, it wasn’t just Lin Yang who noticed the light. At the same moment, the being inside seemed to sense him, spotting Lin Yang as he emerged from Mount Buzhou.
The fleeing light halted at a distance, revealing a tall and imposing middle-aged man.
“Ding. Detection: Primordial Qilin has noticed the host. Please select one of the following options,” a system voice echoed in Lin Yang’s mind.
“Option one: Challenge the Primordial Qilin to battle. Victory grants the reward of Heaven-Tempering Method, enabling the refinement of the twelve Sea-Calming Divine Pearls into ‘Heavens’ akin to the Twenty-Four Heavens.”
“Option two: Pledge allegiance to the Primordial Qilin, join the Qilin Clan, and become an elder. Reward: Body Tempering Technique ‘Earthly Sacred Body,’ capable of forging the physical form comparable to innate supreme treasures.”
“Option three: Avoid unnecessary trouble and the karmic entanglement of the Qilin Clan, and depart swiftly. Reward: Soul Division Technique, allowing the soul to split into two without damage to the root. The divided souls have a hierarchical order, with the secondary soul absolutely obeying the primary.”
Lin Yang was startled by the system prompt. The Primordial Qilin?
“System, I choose option three,” Lin Yang said firmly.
So what if it was the Primordial Qilin? He could count himself as a great power in this Wild Era now.
Besides, his root was one of the Ten Spiritual Roots—the Innate Gourd Vine. Once it matured, reaching the level of the Primordial Qilin would be only a matter of time.
Without hesitation, Lin Yang transformed into a streak of fleeing light and sped away.
The Primordial Qilin was about to speak but saw Lin Yang flying off. Frowning, he refrained from saying anything but felt a twinge of displeasure.
He had initially intended to recruit Lin Yang, sensing his considerable cultivation. Yet Lin Yang left without even a greeting.
Had he not urgent matters, the Primordial Qilin would have made sure Lin Yang understood who the king of beasts truly was.
Turning around, the Primordial Qilin re-entered Mount Buzhou.
Meanwhile, Lin Yang flew away from Mount Buzhou, and the system informed him that the task was complete.
Rewards were granted.
A method to divide the soul appeared in Lin Yang’s mind.
Though not particularly profound, the Soul Division Technique was highly practical.
Moreover, it did not harm the soul’s root. The divided souls were completely obedient to the primary soul.
This was excellent.
In the future, if the opportunity arose, he could create several clones using this technique.
Though having many clones was not always a perfect strategy, if they were numerous enough, even mediocre clones could be formidable.
Much like the ancestor of the Underworld River, who refined the Sea of Blood, producing countless Blood God clones.
Though the ancestor of the Underworld River never attained sainthood, even saints could not easily eliminate him.
Part of this resilience came from the sheer number of his clones.
As long as the Sea of Blood did not dry, as long as a single drop of blood remained, he was immortal.
Combined with the unique nature of the Sea of Blood, he became one of the most resilient great powers in the entire Wild Era.
Lin Yang did not intend to invest as much effort as the Underworld River ancestor into cloning techniques, but having a few extra clones would certainly be useful.
“It’s a pity I couldn’t obtain the Heaven-Tempering Method,” Lin Yang admitted with some regret.
Yet he did not obsess over it.
He knew that compared to the Primordial Qilin, his strength still lagged behind.
If he truly dared to challenge the Primordial Qilin, even with innate supreme treasures, he likely wouldn’t fare well.
Thus, though the Heaven-Tempering Method was offered, Lin Yang restrained himself.
A moment of patience brings calm; a step back reveals the vast sea and sky.
Without dwelling further, Lin Yang quickly composed himself, then changed course, flying toward the starry sky of the Wild Era.
