Chapter 22

Yuan Siyu once again admired her matchmaking target’s talent for casting a wide net. How vast must that net be to randomly run into someone even at Rong Jing’s small stall? Rong Jing bit on her milk tea straw, watching Yuan Siyu’s fingers clenched into a fist, veins bulging on the back of her hand. She glanced at another girl whose eyes were bloodshot with anger and couldn’t help but feel curious. Using her lollipop to tap Yuan Siyu’s fingers, she offered it to her to cool down and asked, “That match you went on—”
“Call him a scumbag.”
Rong Jing obediently corrected herself, “That scumbag didn’t know you were a cop when he was meeting you?”
Yuan Siyu: “...He knew.”
So, after Yuan Siyu confirmed that the despicable man was indeed a con artist, she wondered if he was deliberately provoking her. Yuan Siyu clenched her fist even tighter. “That bastard probably laughed at me in his heart while I was falling for his charm. If I don’t put him behind bars, I’d be betraying my badge.”
After she said this, her eyes suddenly narrowed, and she leaned close to Rong Jing, whispering in a voice only Rong Jing could hear, “Master, do you raise ghosts?”
Rong Jing: “?”
Yuan Siyu rubbed her hands together and cleared her throat. “Can you lend me one? I’ll pay.”
Before Rong Jing could respond, Cheng Puyu was already jumping excitedly in front of her. “I’ll go, I’ll go! Let me go!”
Rong Jing took a sip of her milk tea and asked, “Why don’t you borrow a ghost from your special department?”
From Rong Jing’s knowledge of various sects and Taoist temples, those Taoists definitely had plenty of little ghosts—they were often used as powerful and convenient weapons.
Yuan Siyu scoffed, “I went to the special department this morning. They didn’t agree.”
Usually, for cases, you could file a report and request help. But this was personal revenge; it was no surprise the special department refused.
“Don’t worry, I won’t mess around.”
“Honestly, I’m not too worried.” Even if Yuan Siyu wanted to mess around, Cheng Puyu knew better.
Thinking this over, Rong Jing didn’t stop Cheng Puyu from making some extra money—if he earned more, maybe next time he could take her to that all-you-can-eat hotpot place.
After deciding, Yuan Siyu and Cheng Puyu quickly disappeared down Changhua Street. Before leaving, Yuan Siyu promised the other deceived girl, “Don’t worry, I will make them pay!”
...
When Rong Jing returned to Yunjiang Bay with Xie Changshi, Cheng Puyu still hadn’t come back.
Rong Jing didn’t mind and happily followed Xie Changshi to dinner. After a full meal, she had a cup of after-dinner drink.

After drinking the blood, Rong Jing felt dizzy, as if the whole zombie was floating up to the sky. Xie Changshi loosened his shoulders, feeling the lingering dampness at his neck, lowering his eyes to see the little zombie cuddling a pillow and rubbing its face.
He reached out a finger to touch the youth’s cheek, but Rong Jing grabbed his hand, opening her misty eyes and hoarsely asked, “What are you doing?”
“Checking if you’re drunk on blood.”
“No way.” It was just like having a couple extra sips—feeling a bit too good.
After more than ten minutes, Rong Jing recovered from her weak legs and trembling hands. Pressing her face against the pillow, she looked at the man sitting beside her reviewing reports. He seemed to remember something and hurried back to his room.
Within two minutes, he came out holding a large box.
Catching Xie Changshi’s gaze, he shoved the big box into Xie Changshi’s arms and said, “This is compensation.”
Compensation?
Xie Changshi’s eyebrows lifted slightly, thinking this little zombie had learned some social graces—after drinking his blood, it even knew to compensate him.
Looking down, he noticed large characters on the box:
“XX Rich Iron Soft Candy, Blood and Qi Supplement for Pregnant Women.”
Xie Changshi: “...?”
So much for social graces learned.
After a few seconds of silence, Xie Changshi tossed the box back into the youth’s arms, pressing his slightly aching temples and asked, “Do you know what these two characters mean?”
Rong Jing leaned in to look: “Pregnant woman.”
Though a zombie, he was barely literate, having been taught many characters by Grandpa Tai Xu and Xie Changshi.
Xie Changshi: “What do I have in common with a pregnant woman?”
Rong Jing: “We’re both human.”
Xie Changshi: “?”
Rong Jing made a sound of realization and explained, “I saw on the news a few days ago that many health supplements have hidden problems—they don’t just fail to live up to the hype, they might even harm the body. But this one’s different. If pregnant women can eat it, you definitely can too.”
Xie Changshi: “...”
The logic wasn’t bad, but he refused.
He stood, placing his palm on Rong Jing’s head, his tone indifferent: “I’m not so weak that just because you drank two sips of my blood I have to make it up. I don’t need this; you eat it yourself.”
Rong Jing looked at the box, then at Xie Changshi’s back, and decisively opened a box and picked out a candy.

...Setting aside the pregnant woman issue, it actually tasted pretty good.
Xie Changshi really had no taste.
Since Xie Changshi wasn’t interested in the soft candy, the next day, Rong Jing brought her blood-supplement soft candy to Changhua Street and enthusiastically shared it with Mo Jingtong.
Trying to find a companion.
Mo Jingtong did not disappoint. After biting a couple times, the young man’s eyes lit up. “This candy’s actually pretty tasty.”
Rong Jing’s eyes also sparkled, satisfied to see Mo Jingtong’s approving gaze like a kindred spirit, but in her heart, she still muttered—Xie Changshi really lacks taste.
In the afternoon, a group suddenly appeared before Rong Jing’s stall, led by Brother Chang.
Brother Chang was live-streaming as usual, dressed sharply. According to Mo Jingtong, his suit was a high-end custom from a luxury brand, and the watch glimpsed on his wrist was worth 80,000 yuan, exuding confidence.
When their eyes met, Brother Chang smiled.
Ruffling his blond hair, he smirked and asked, “Master, you seem surprised by my arrival. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten our bet?”
Rong Jing blinked. “I haven’t forgotten.”
Then glanced at the time on his phone, speaking again, “But according to our bet, it’s still two hours before seven days are up. You’re early.”
At this, Brother Chang and the live-stream audience burst into laughter.
[No way, he’s still struggling?]
[Does he really think those two hours can turn the tide?]
[I envy the mindset of a con artist. I can’t stay this calm when trouble hits me.]
[Stop arguing with him! Call the police and say there’s a scammer here!]
[Right, didn’t that streamer Liuliu say if he’s a scammer, the police will catch him? Call the cops!]
[Call the cops!]
Within seconds, the chat was flooded with “Call the cops,” and to everyone’s surprise, at that moment, the sound of police sirens cut through the noisy crowd, suddenly ringing out.
