Chapter 20

Holding a cup of water, Su Yuan’s fingers absently traced the rim, the warmth gently soothing her restless mind for a moment as it spread through her skin and veins.
She was pondering a question.
If the deaths of Bu Jun and the others were truly caused by the factory director ordering the little ghosts to act, then how could justice be served for Bu Jun and the others?
When villains commit crimes, the police intervene—but what about evil spirits? And those pulling the strings behind them?
As if sensing her thoughts, Rong Jing reminded her, “For the Bu Jun case, you can go to the Yan City Police Station and ask for the Special Department. There will be dedicated staff to handle your case. Just tell them everything you’ve encountered and all your suspicions.”
The police station?
The words were familiar, but what was this Special Department?
Did such a thing really exist?
She asked hesitantly, “Can I also tell them about how you saved me from the little ghost demanding my life?”
Rong Jing nodded. “Of course.”
Having promptly rescued Su Yuan and roughly understanding her situation, and seeing it was getting late with Xie Changshi waiting in the garage below, Rong Jing decided not to stay any longer and prepared to leave.
After a moment, he looked back at Cheng Puyu, who was gazing at him expectantly, and suggested, “You stay behind and escort Sister Su to the Special Department, then come back.”
Cheng Puyu didn’t mind but said, “I still have to work.”
Rong Jing replied, “I’ll help you get leave.”
Cheng Puyu quickly made an OK sign, then turned to the woman who looked stunned upon hearing “work,” and shyly smiled, “Don’t worry, tonight I’ll guard outside so no little ghosts will bother you again.”
Su Yuan nodded. “Thank you.”
…
Rong Jing took the elevator back to the garage.
Since he had gone out suddenly, Xie Changshi was dressed less formally than usual, wearing a black shirt loosely buttoned at the collar, revealing pale skin. Reclining in the seat, he held his phone with one hand, seemingly browsing some information.
Then, catching sight of Rong Jing, he looked up and asked, “Handled it?”
Rong Jing nodded as he climbed into the car. “Yeah, a little ghost tried to kill her, but luckily Cheng Puyu arrived just in time. By the way, I had Cheng Puyu stay at Sister Su’s place and planned to take her to the police station tomorrow. Cheng Puyu needs to take a day off.”
“I’ll inform Song Qing.”
“Are we going home now?” Rong Jing cupped his face, his dark eyes pleading silently, begging for a ‘no’.
The little zombie hadn’t yet learned to hide his feelings.
Especially on the drive back to Senhe Residential District, when the smell of cumin and chili salt from roadside barbecue stalls wafted through the partially open window, the boy’s eyes lit up.
Xie Changshi took the initiative, “Want some barbecue?”
Rong Jing feigned hesitation. “Is that okay?”
“Sure.”
Over ten minutes later, at the roadside barbecue stand, the owner glanced at the three large bowls piled with skewers before him and twitched his eye.
It was already two in the morning; he had been about to close up, seeing no customers, when suddenly a big client appeared—he didn’t know whether to be happy or cry.
Wiping away tears caused by the smoke, he warmly invited, “Feel free to sit anywhere. Drinks and alcohol are in the cabinet; help yourselves. Pay when you’re done.”
Rong Jing’s gaze fixed on the beer.
Xie Changshi noticed and nudged him aside toward the pure pomegranate juice, coldly saying, “Look at this.”
Rong Jing was speechless.

The little zombie protested, “Not even a drop? You can drink the rest.”
Xie Changshi: “I’m driving unless you want to carry the car home.”
Rong Jing struggled on, “We could take a taxi first, then have someone come get the car tomorrow.”
Xie Changshi answered firmly, “Not a drop.”
Rong Jing was speechless.
Alright then.
No means no.
Pomegranate juice was just as tasty.
And it looked quite like blood.
Though the start was a little disappointing, once the pomegranate juice was opened and the skewers served, Rong Jing was utterly absorbed in eating.
He pushed a particularly delicious skewer to Xie Changshi, urging, “Xie Changshi, try this. It’s good.”
Xie Changshi grunted in approval.
After the late-night meal, they arrived home at four a.m.
Rong Jing was extremely excited and didn’t sleep, while Xie Changshi briefly dozed for two hours before heading to work as usual.
Meanwhile,
Su Yuan woke early, changed clothes, and drove to Yan City Police Station with the documents she had organized overnight.
Cheng Puyu sat silently in the back seat, but Su Yuan occasionally spoke.
“You said you have to work. Do ghosts have jobs, too?”
Curious about a world she had never entered, Su Yuan originally thought, based on stories she’d heard since childhood, that little ghosts went to reincarnate. She hadn’t expected Cheng Puyu to still have work.
Working as a human and still working as a ghost—wasn’t that unreasonable?
Cheng Puyu touched its nose and quietly replied, “Usually, no.”
Su Yuan hesitated, “Then what is your situation?”
Cheng Puyu said, “I’m an exception with some brain issues.”
Su Yuan was speechless.
Her lips twitched, not knowing how to respond. Just then, as the atmosphere quieted, the entrance to Yan City Police Station appeared before her. She parked and stepped out, noticing Cheng Puyu hadn’t followed. She turned with a puzzled look but then heard it say, “I’m not going in. I’ll wait outside.”
“Okay.”
Entering the building, Su Yuan approached the receptionist and cautiously said, “Hello, I’m looking for the Special Department.”
The receptionist’s smile faltered slightly, then quickly said, “Please wait, I’ll take you there.”
The Special Department was on the sixth floor.
Following the receptionist, Su Yuan couldn’t help but glance repeatedly at the door, silently wondering—what was engraved there? Why did it look so much like garlic?
“Come in.”
Just as Su Yuan was baffled, a youthful male voice called from within.
She entered and looked up to see a young man wearing a T-shirt, sweatpants, and sneakers, probably no older than twenty-five. His black hair was dyed gray-white, and a flashy chain hung around his neck, giving off a somewhat unruly vibe.
But she heard the receptionist call him, “Deputy Chi, this lady is here to see you.”
Chi Bai looked at Su Yuan, his nose twitching as he caught a faint ghostly scent, vaguely guessing her purpose. Yet he was curious, “How did you find out about the Special Department?”

Su Yuan’s eyes scanned the office decorations, which were completely unlike a serious style, and she quickly replied, “A Taoist priest named Rong Jing recommended I come.”
Rong Jing?
Chi Bai drew out the sound “Oh,” then glanced at his phone screen, where the account name “I am your dad” stood out prominently.
He gestured to a seat beside him, “Have a seat and talk.”
Remembering Rong Jing’s advice, Su Yuan detailed everything and all her suspicions to him. After she finished, Chi Bai narrowed his eyes and asked, “You mentioned Danfeng Group?”
Su Yuan was taken aback, then after a moment of silence, nodded.
Danfeng Group was well-known nationwide, although it couldn’t compare to the Xie family’s century-old legacy recently revitalized, it was still a household name.
That was why many colleagues expressed regret when Su Yuan resigned.
“Wait a moment.” Chi Bai said, then turned and dialed a number. “Duan Yunshuang, there’s a victim reporting a case here, suspects Danfeng Group’s people of using ghosts to torture and kill employees. Come over.”
Duan Yunshuang had returned to Tingyang from Yingzhou yesterday. Since the trip yielded no useful leads, Danfeng Group had become a dead end. She had spent three hours angrily cursing in the group chat.
Chi Bai was shocked by the 999+ notifications on his phone. Reading the messages, he thought Duan Yunshuang could write a book titled: How to Politely Insult Idiots.
Still fuming, Duan Yunshuang jumped out of bed upon hearing a victim report a case involving Danfeng Group, muttered “Wait, I’m coming,” and threw down her phone.
Chi Bai hung up and asked Su Yuan, “Do you have plans today? If not, you can look around the station, enjoy the scenery. When Director Duan from Tingyang Special Department arrives, she’ll speak with you in detail.”
Su Yuan: “I’ll inform the friend who brought me.”
“All right.”
…
Cheng Puyu leisurely drifted to Changhua Street.
Rong Jing had arranged a full day off for it. Cheng Puyu was supposed to continue coordinating a project with Chen Rong from the Jiang family today but didn’t want to talk with him at all, so it took advantage of the leave to escape.
“You’re here! Perfect timing. Sister Su transferred me some money; shall I take you shopping?”
Cheng Puyu had done most of the work catching little ghosts and protecting Su Yuan, so a large portion of the payment was rightly its due. But just giving money to Cheng Puyu was useless, so Rong Jing found a funeral goods shop to buy some items for it.
To stop Cheng Puyu from coveting everything.
Sure enough, when Rong Jing said this, Cheng Puyu’s eyes lit up.
“Really?”
“Yeah, after lunch we’ll go.”
The funeral goods shop was recommended by Duan Yunshuang. The owner was reputedly impressive, running multiple branches in nearby towns. This one in Yan City was the largest and most well-stocked.
Rong Jing hailed a cab, and they got in. The driver greeted them warmly and smiled, “Heading to Tiandi Tong? Are you locals or from out of town?”
Rong Jing and Cheng Puyu found this odd. Apart from locals buying funeral items, why would outsiders come here?
The driver noticed their puzzled looks in the rearview mirror and waved dismissively, “Oh, although Tiandi Tong sells funeral goods, it’s surprisingly popular—a local tourist attraction.”
While waiting at a green light, the driver took out his phone, searched an app, and handed it to Rong Jing.
Rong Jing looked down. The account owner had posted a photo of themselves with a luxurious paper mansion, stating: Checking in at Yan City Tiandi Tong, planning to buy a big mansion to burn for my grandfather who passed away eighteen years ago, so he can smack my dad in his dreams every now and then, so he stops nagging me all the time /smile
