Chapter Eleven: The Baptism of Pigeon Droppings

A week later.
The Mu family held a camping trip on an undeveloped patch of land near a mountain outside City B.
The place had originally been a resort. After Mu Deyan purchased it, he named it after Mu Weien and even brought in all kinds of animals as gifts for his granddaughter.
“En’s Forest.”
It meant that the entire forest belonged to Mu Weien!
Aside from the Mu family, many other vacationers had come to enjoy the resort as well.
When they saw the Mu family climbing down from their motorhome, several prominent figures who knew them came over to greet them.
Ever since Mu You could remember, she had rarely gone out, much less interacted with outsiders. Hardly anyone knew her, so she quietly stood off to the side, admiring the natural scenery.
To strengthen the bonds between family members, keep everyone fit, and let them enjoy nature, Mu Deyan organized family outings to scenic mountain and lake destinations from time to time.
In Mu You’s memories, when her mother was still alive, their entire extended family often went camping together.
After her mother passed away, Grandfather had always been gloomy, and they had not gone on a family camping trip for a very long time.
Perhaps Grandfather and the others had gone camping without her…
“Enny, look over there! There are so many birds flying around!”
Lai Jiaojiao pointed at the pigeons in the sky.
The moment the pigeons saw them, they all flew over together and circled above Mu Weien’s head. One of them even landed on her hand.
“Wow, look at that! How much the little animals adore this child!”
“Of course they do. These are all wild animals. It just proves that our Enny is loved by every living creature!”
The praise from the people around her, along with that of her parents, made Mu Weien proudly lift her chin.
See? Every living creature adored her!
She was going to become a huge star one day!
Only…
Mu Weien shot a sidelong glare at Mu You.
Why had this irritating burden come along to the family camping trip too?
She was not a member of the Mu family!
Her parents had told her that Mu You and her father were both annoying burdens!
Mu You automatically ignored Mu Weien’s hostile glare.
Instead, she focused on observing the pigeons.
Uncle and Auntie had lied!
These were not wild pigeons at all. They had been raised by people…
“What are you looking at? These pigeons only like me. They’ll never like you, you awful, hateful brat!”
Noticing Mu You’s gaze, Mu Weien viciously berated her.
“Little sister, I only wanted to warn you to be careful. Pigeons have very short intestines, so they might poop on you!”

Mu You tilted her head, her face full of sincerity.
She truly had been kindly offering a heartfelt warning.
The pigeons had just told her that the keeper had ordered them to get close to the master’s children today, and had fed them extra food.
They were about to burst!
“What are you talking about? I don’t believe you! And don’t call me sis—”
“Ahhh!”
Before Mu Weien could finish, the pigeons above her suddenly began raining droppings down on her.
“Quick, get back to the motorhome!”
Lai Jiaojiao hurriedly opened an umbrella and, fighting back her disgust, took her daughter back to the motorhome to clean her up.
“Mommy, it’s all Mu You’s fault! Boo-hoo-hoo…”
After hearing her daughter’s complaint, Lai Jiaojiao struggled to suppress her anger.
“Mu You, that jinx! That accursed little burden!”
She truly wanted to teach the wretched girl a lesson right then and there.
Once Mu Weien had been cleaned up and came back outside, Mu Deyan called her over.
As it turned out, an international kindergarten was also holding an outdoor activity at the resort. Its students were all children of celebrities or members of prominent families.
Since Mu Weien and Mu Weiyi were educated at home by private teachers and did not attend school, they had very few friends their own age. That was why they had grown so fond of keeping pets.
Mu Deyan therefore thought he could use this opportunity to let the children of the family interact more with others their age.
“They’re about to start playing games. I’ve already spoken with the principal, so you may join them.”
“Whoever wins first place will receive a reward from Grandfather.”
Mu Weien and Mu Weiyi cheered excitedly when they heard that.
But when Mu Deyan added that Mu You would be participating as well, their excitement vanished.
“All right. That settles it.”
Not long after Mu Deyan left, someone came over to make friends with them and invite them to form a team for an adventure in the woods.
“Hello, my name is Eddie. You can also call me by my Chinese name, Lin Zimu. I’m six years old.”
A handsome mixed-race boy walked toward them.
Mu Weien instinctively assumed he had come because of her.
Children cared about beauty too. Her little face flushed as she prepared to graciously accept his handshake.
But Lin Zimu headed straight for Mu You instead. With the frank, generous nature typical of Westerners, he praised her without the slightest hesitation.
“Hello, beautiful little princess. May I ask your name? How old are you? Can we be friends?”
Mu You was somewhat bewildered.
After all, this was the first time anyone had called her beautiful.
Back at the Mu residence, everyone always noticed her younger sister first. No one had ever cared about her.

“Hmph, Lin Zimu! I really don’t know what’s wrong with your eyes! I, Mu Weien, will remember this!”
This was also the first time Mu Weien had ever been snubbed.
She angrily withdrew the hand she had extended and stormed toward the Mu family’s motorhome.
“I’m not playing anymore!”
Lin Zimu stared at Mu Weien’s furious retreat, his face full of confusion, while Mu You looked somewhat worried.
Once Mu Weien threw a tantrum, Mu You would probably be in trouble again when they returned.
Hmph, she wasn’t afraid!
Mu You puffed out her cheeks and encouraged herself.
Youyou did nothing wrong. Youyou isn’t afraid!
Sure enough, after hearing her daughter’s complaint, Lai Jiaojiao’s eyes churned with fury.
“Be good, Enny. That boy came from outside and doesn’t know how to appreciate beauty. He has no idea who the most beautiful and outstanding child is. We won’t stoop to his level.”
As she comforted her daughter, Lai Jiaojiao glared viciously through the motorhome window at Mu You, who was being engaged in conversation by Lin Zimu.
Ever since the incident on the Winter Solstice, Mu You had used recuperating as an excuse to hide in the room beside the old master’s. Lai Jiaojiao had been unable to find any opportunity to make a move.
But now they were outdoors, where there were no surveillance cameras…
She could not endure it any longer!
“I refuse to believe your luck is that good. You can’t dodge it every single time!”
Lai Jiaojiao suddenly raised her voice, startling the daughter in her arms.
“Mommy, what’s wrong with you?”
Mu Weien felt that her mommy had been acting strangely lately. She was always muttering to herself or suddenly becoming wildly excited.
“Nothing, nothing… Be a good girl and get along with your little friends. Grandfather will be happy when he sees you.”
“Don’t you want Grandfather’s reward?”
Mu Weien thought for a moment, then nodded, her face filled with ambition.
“It has to be mine!”
“That’s right. Mommy believes in you, Enny!”
After sending Mu Weien outside, Lai Jiaojiao hid in the woods and began carrying out her surveillance and plotting.
She was determined to make the little burden pay a terrible price!
By then, Mu You had already found a companion for the expedition into the woods—
Lin Zimu!
