Chapter One: Volunteering Oneself

“Daring to cause trouble in the military camp with such audacity!”

“If you don’t leave now, don’t blame me for being rude!”

Zhao Ning impatiently stared at the girl standing at the gate of the camp, his face full of irritation.

Today it was his turn to patrol outside, and this girl came up and immediately claimed she could heal all the severely wounded soldiers and absolutely save their lives!

At first, when she said she was a doctor, he had felt a flicker of hope. They had just finished a fierce battle and suffered heavy casualties; they were in desperate need of military doctors.

But when she insisted she could save every soldier’s life, he knew she was a fraud!

Jiang Bai wore a faded, washed-out outfit. Her hair was simply tied back, revealing an ordinary face—sallow skin, average features—so plain that she would go unnoticed in a crowd.

Only the proud expression on her face stood out.

“Get lost! I’m warning you, or I’ll take action!”

Zhao Ning’s expression darkened, a fierce glint in his eyes as he drew his long sword and pointed it at Jiang Bai.

Without a trace of fear, Jiang Bai met Zhao Ning’s gaze and angrily flicked her sleeve.

“I’m only here to treat the soldiers out of gratitude!”

“But since you’re so ungrateful, I won’t waste any more effort!”

“However, kid, just a warning: judging by your complexion, your body must already be infested with worms. Tomorrow, those worms will surely erupt inside your stomach. Just wait to die slowly!”

“Shortsighted fool! My sister is a divine doctor, a once-in-a-millennium talent. If you drive her away now, it’ll be hard to get her help again!”

Jiang Ye, standing beside Jiang Bai, snorted coldly. He looked down on Zhao Ning with disdain, raising his chin arrogantly before following Jiang Bai’s footsteps away.

Once they were a safe distance away, Jiang Ye stretched his neck and jogged alongside his sister, earnestly asking, “Sister, did I act convincingly just now?”

“Very convincing!”

Jiang Bai smiled warmly, gently patting her brother’s head. The haughty aura that had cloaked her moments ago vanished completely, replaced by a gentle and approachable expression.

“Let’s go home now and wait for them to come looking for us.”

“Because things that come uninvited aren’t valuable. Only those you go to great lengths to invite are precious. I’m just raising my own worth.”

“The symptoms will match exactly what I described.”

Jiang Bai’s smile was cunning. She had stood upwind earlier, so the powder silently entered his body.

Jiang Ye frowned, conflicted.
