Chapter 129: Back to the Hospital! Everything Healed?
Zhang Wuyong quietly exhaled a breath of relief.
“Trust me, it’s going to be fine... really, it will be!” He offered his left arm as a pillow for Tongtong.
With his right hand, he gently stroked her shoulder-length hair.
His soft yet resolute words gradually calmed Tongtong’s restless heart.
At last, she slowly drifted asleep in his embrace.
Holding her, Zhang Wuyong felt the softness of her delicate body; the neckline of her nightgown clung to him, outlining her exquisite curves. In that moment, he felt a profound peace.
He glanced again at the system status bar.
He noticed that the title "Flawless" was still gray.
Tongtong woke once more after sleeping deeply past eleven o’clock.
This sleep seemed to have helped her slowly come to terms with the reality that now they could only wait here for news.
She didn’t cry anymore.
Instead, she told him many stories.
She spoke of how her mother had cared for her as a child.
She spoke of how her mother patiently helped her with her studies, never angry when she struggled with problems, always teaching her by her side.
She spoke of the day the dreadful news about her father arrived.
Here, she almost cried again but held back.
She spoke of how, when she started middle school, her mother juggled work and caring for her.
Later, she learned that she had been bullied at school but never dared tell her mother, who secretly wept behind her back.
She told many, many things.
Zhang Wuyong listened quietly the whole time.
Naturally, he knew all these things already.
But he was still willing to hear her out.
Or rather, he wanted to hear her speak.
They talked until past two in the morning, when Tongtong finally fell asleep again.
Zhang Wuyong kept his eyes open, watching until after half past three.
The warm yellow light from the bedside night lamp illuminated the head of the bed.
He saw the words "Flawless" finally turn white once more.
Exactly twenty-four hours had passed since he last used "Flawless."
Gently, he withdrew his hand from under Tongtong’s neck.
It wasn’t too difficult since she had been resting on the pillow, and his hand had served as a kind of neck rest.
However, one of her hands still clung tightly to his clothes.
Zhang Wuyong had to carefully and slowly pry apart her slender fingers.
He left a note on the bedside table, saying he was going home briefly and would return soon.
He believed he could return before Tongtong woke.
But just in case, he didn’t want her to wake and find herself utterly alone in the house.
Zhang Wuyong stepped out, quietly closing the front door behind him.
He went downstairs and rode his small electric scooter. Nearing the hospital, he activated "Flawless."
He circled around until he found a drunken passerby.
After observing him for a while, he left again.
A short distance from the hospital, he imitated the drunken man’s staggering gait and demeanor.
He copied his movements, his manner.
His appearance.
His replacement.
Zhang Wuyong entered the hospital but did not head to the inpatient building; instead, he walked toward the outpatient building.
He circled to the back, where there was no lighting.
There was only a patch of greenery, then the perimeter wall beyond.
Taking a deep breath, Zhang Wuyong pointed his hand into the darkness, and the Magic Crystal Fate Coffin appeared out of thin air.
Opening the coffin, he easily lifted Aunt Zhu out and laid her on the grass.
He closed the coffin and made his way to the emergency department on the first floor of the inpatient building.
At the emergency reception desk, he hurried over, “You need to check—there’s someone lying there wearing a hospital gown. She looks like a female patient here.”
Two nurses at the desk looked up in surprise.
One nurse stepped around the desk and called a security guard, who followed her out.
Guided by Zhang Wuyong, they reached the back.
“There really is someone!” the nurse gasped, quickly instructing the guard to fetch a stretcher.
After a flurry of activity, the woman in the hospital gown was wheeled into the emergency room. A doctor came out to examine her and exclaimed in shock, “Doctor Zhu?”
By then, Zhang Wuyong had quietly slipped away, leaving the hospital, deactivating his title, and riding his scooter home.
Back in his apartment complex, he took the elevator to the ninth floor.
Using the key Tongtong had left him, he unlocked her door.
Quietly entering, he slipped into Tongtong’s bedroom.
The note still lay on the table.
Zhang Wuyong reached out and pinched the note.
Like magic, it vanished into thin air.
Lying down again, the beautiful girl on the bed suddenly stirred and opened her eyes. “Wuyong?”
“I’m here!” Zhang Wuyong pulled back the thin blanket and lay beside her once more.
“Where did you go?” Tongtong asked softly.
“I just went to the bathroom.”
He reached out, touching her smooth, sculpted cheek. “Feeling better now?”
“Mm!” Tongtong stretched out her hand, grasped his, and held his broad palm against her face. “I dreamed that you brought mom back.”
Zhang Wuyong smiled, “Sounds like a good dream.”
Tongtong nestled closer to him, wrapping her arms around his waist.
After a while, she raised her head, gazing at his face in the dim night lamp light. “Wuyong! Are you nervous?”
“No, I’m not!”
Tongtong lifted herself a little, pressing her cheek against his, sensing the chill and firmness beneath. “You’re lying!”
Indeed, Zhang Wuyong was very nervous.
Aunt Zhu had been saved, but the matter was far from resolved.
What would come next? He had no confidence at all.
Yet, at this moment, he didn’t know what else to do.
Tongtong rolled over under the blanket, facing away from him, gripping his hand, coaxing his arms to encircle her.
“Your hands are cold too!” she whispered, her voice as gentle and nourishing as spring rain.
Then, she slowly unbuttoned her nightgown, slipping his hands inside.
Using her own warmth to thaw his freezing palms.
“Mom will be okay!” she murmured, as if dreaming—but with unwavering conviction.
“Mm! We’ll all be okay!” Zhang Wuyong pulled her closer into his arms.
The two childhood companions fell asleep peacefully together.
Meanwhile, at the city hospital, chaos reigned.
“Impossible, this can’t be!” Director Zheng Taihua held the freshly taken CT scans, stunned.
He stood and paced the tightly closed office, ignoring the puzzled gaze of the police detective captain beside him.
“What on earth happened?” the tall detective captain asked gravely.
Director Zheng turned toward him, mouth opening then closing, hesitating.
Yao Tong stared at him, “What’s going on? Just tell us.”
The director’s face was filled with disbelief: “Doctor Zhu’s injuries... they’re completely healed?!”
