15. Reinforcements
When Bruce was about to start causing trouble, the World Consciousness decided to observe for a while first.
After all, tonight’s storyline for the world’s best duo was going quite well, wasn’t it? Maybe it didn’t need to worry too much?
However, the director it personally selected soon dealt it a harsh blow.
As Bruce began discussing with others how to proceed with the next plot point, dubbed “Gotham War,” it despaired upon realizing that Bruce really loved Marvel movies.
It should have chosen a die-hard DC fan as director instead.
But if not for the fact that… only those two were available…
In any case, the World Consciousness had to reiterate: it was part of the DC parallel universe, not the Marvel universe, had no intention of crossovers with Marvel, and certainly didn’t want other colleagues suspecting it of some strange collusion with the rival faction!
It had hoped that the other actors brought in would remind the director of the proper script, but to its utter disbelief, those bastards all tacitly remained silent, just watching the chaos unfold!
If the world line hadn’t already begun running and actors couldn’t be removed arbitrarily, it really wanted to kick every last one of these troublemakers out!
To avoid being mistaken as a traitor by the others due to bizarre plotlines, the World Consciousness decided to save itself.
Initially, it hadn’t planned to summon actors to play alien villains or superheroes, concentrating their avatars on Earth to keep things simple. But now, if it wanted to bring in another external script-writer, it had to start from an alien origin.
Without hesitation, it contacted an actor.
Once assured that the actor would soon assume the role and arrive on Earth within a day, it finally relaxed.
When the external aid arrived and Bruce learned the correct script, everything should return to its original course, right?
With hopeful visions, the World Consciousness glanced once more at the channel it had created and saw Bruce still trying to persuade others to agree with his script.
“I think Gotham War is quite reasonable. Everyone knows Gotham’s citizens have more experience avoiding chaos; when villains cause trouble, they run faster. Plus, it’s Wayne’s turf—I’m confident I can keep casualties at zero… By the way, do we really have no actors whose avatars are aliens? This universe definitely has no magical cubes imbued with mysterious powers that anyone would fight over, right?”
Heh.
It coldly blocked the mental channel, but inside, it couldn’t stop feeling bitter.
Is Marvel really that much better? This guy is Bruce, yet he’s never watched DC, only the rival side…
The World Consciousness was saddened.
So it contacted external aid once again, hoping the newcomer could quickly bring Bruce back.
“How’s it going? Are you here yet?”
In the vast cosmos, a small escape pod sped toward the blue planet.
Inside the pod, a blonde girl who had been asleep opened her eyes.
Her eyes, inherited from the El family and supposed to be as brilliantly blue as the starry sky, now emitted a cold, inorganic gleam.
“Designation D-173, consciousness has been inserted into the role.”
“Forget the designation. You are now Kara Zor-El.”
Taking advantage of being beyond the plot’s reach in outer space, Kara stopped pretending to be unconscious and acted freely.
“No, call me Kara Van. I’m Superman’s cousin—his uncle’s daughter.”
“...?”
You like to change character backgrounds too?
The World Consciousness tensed slightly but then relaxed: it’s just a surname; change it if you want. It’s better than drastically altering the storyline.
“Do you know what you’re supposed to do?” it asked anxiously.
Kara, who had already prepared her character and script, was confident.
“Isn’t it to guide the others back onto the proper DC storyline? Don’t worry, no one knows DC better than me.”
“Bruce is a bit… stubborn. He already has his own chaotic script and might not listen to you.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll perform right in front of him, leaving him no choice but my script!”
Seeing the girl’s confidence, the World Consciousness trusted this specially hired external aid’s abilities and didn’t even ask what her script was before peacefully going to sleep.
—To repair the space-time barrier, it had exhausted too much energy and had to recharge through hibernation.
Once it left, Kara completely dropped her composed mask, rubbing her hands excitedly, her eyes shining intensely.
To perform her favorite adapted storyline, she even brought along the key prop Doomsday!
The last knight of the El family has arrived!
At that moment, too excited to notice, Kara failed to see a faint azure flicker suddenly flash in the outer cosmos.
The universe silently warped, and the ship carrying the World Consciousness’s hope vanished into thin air—along with Kara’s prop, Doomsday.
The sleeping World Consciousness remained unresponsive.
Bruce was arguing with Clark, who firmly opposed the Gotham War, but at some point, he suddenly felt a chill down his spine.
It seemed someone had added more work for him again.
At that moment, an unnoticed actor panel quietly gained a new name, then dimmed again.
The parallel universe once codenamed “Batman v Superman.”
This night was unbearably long, but after successfully handcuffing the source of chaos, Luthor, the horizon showed signs of dawn, and everything seemed nearly over.
Batman silently watched the raving Luthor being hauled into a police car, not leaving immediately as if contemplating something.
A crimson cape silently landed behind him. Before it could get closer, he seemed to have eyes on the back of his head and spoke in a hoarse voice:
“What are you doing here?”
Superman, encouraged by Batman’s unusually calm demeanor, mustered courage and extended a tentative hand of friendship.
“Batman, I have to admit, this time we thwarted Luthor’s plot thanks to you. Maybe we misunderstood each other a bit…”
“No misunderstanding.” Yet Batman’s tone was still cold and hard, as if the peaceful words were an illusion.
“From now on, everything stays the same. You keep saving your cats in Metropolis, and I’ll fight crime in Gotham—no interference.”
Yes, the best relationship between Superman and Batman was having no relationship at all.
This was an accident—an accident that nearly drove him down a murderous path. Because of that, he couldn’t face the face of Superman, once seen as a fierce demon, for a long time.
Moreover, deep down, he didn’t believe he could give Superman what he wanted, because he thought he didn’t need such a foolish thing as a “partner.”
As long as the next time they met they didn’t yell at each other, that would be enough.
After all, Superman was a powerful alien capable of destroying Earth, someone who needed to be highly guarded. They didn’t need to be close; just avoid misunderstandings.
Batman’s attitude showed no change after the chaotic night. He remained wary of Superman.
Superman was also annoyed by this.
He had a decent temper but disliked giving warm faces to cold backs and was still somewhat dissatisfied with Batman’s overly violent nature.
He turned around in a huff, ready to fly away, but suddenly his eyes sharpened.
“Batman, I can see something entering Earth’s atmosphere, rapidly descending toward us!”
Batman, who was notifying Alfred to bring the Batwing, immediately turned back, setting aside his earlier “no more cooperation” resolve, quickly entering battle mode.
“Can your super vision see what it is?”
Squinting, Superman’s tone suddenly rose when he recognized it.
“Ra’s al Ghul! That looks like a small spaceship!”
Even its design was very similar to the baby pod that had sent him to Earth from Kansas, only much larger!
His heart thumped violently twice as an incredible thought surfaced: could it be another Kryptonian?
But he quickly recalled what his Kryptonian compatriots led by General Zod had brought him last time, and a flicker of panic and pain crossed his eyes.
He always told everyone he was the last son of Krypton, but recently it seemed he kept being proven wrong…
Batman couldn’t see the rapidly falling pod but could clearly read Superman’s expression.
Many guesses flashed through his mind.
However, there was no need to quarrel with Superman now.
Another alien had arrived on Earth, and he needed to know whether this one had the same intentions as General Zod. That was the most important matter.
“Superman, try to pinpoint the pod’s landing spot. I’ll assist with calculations. We must reach the landing site before anyone else!”
“Count me in.”
A strange female voice came from the shadows, and both men instantly raised their guard.
“Diana Prince.”
The woman smiled at the figures in black and red cloaks.
She had been observing quietly all night. Seeing Luthor captured, she thought she wouldn’t have a chance to appear, but an unexpected event occurred.
Luckily, Superman and Batman’s attitudes were now much more tempered, so she decisively chose to join them rather than continue investigating in secret.
Here, the three pillars of the future Justice League finally gathered and were about to form a trio to investigate the unidentified flying object.
Meanwhile…
Kara opened her eyes to the ship’s AI automatic announcement and nearly jumped in surprise.
“Huh? We’ve arrived on Earth so fast? The previous trajectory said it should take another day and night?”
She had been too excited and had tried to nap, but ended up sleeping a full day?
Instinctively, she felt something was off, but seeing the Justice League’s three pillars rekindled her excitement, pushing the odd feeling aside.
Logically, as a newly joined actor, she should actively connect to the channel and report her arrival.
But unfortunately, she wasn’t here to join the script; she was here to force a new one!
Prepare for her meticulously planned epic plot—the Death of Superman!
