Volume 1, Chapter 41: The Empress Orders Xiangzhu to be Taken Away Alone
At Cold Pool Hall, the days passed in tranquil contentment.
There was no need to rise before dawn, nor to tread on eggshells in constant fear and trepidation.
The meals seemed to have been sent from the Eastern Palace’s small kitchen.
Because the Crown Princess cared about such things, the servants responsible for delivering the food took it seriously as well. Despite the long distance from the Eastern Palace to Cold Pool Hall, steam still rose from the dishes when the food box was opened.
Xiangzhu Liangcai, Shuangmei, and the other four sat together and enjoyed a hearty meal. As usual, Hanmei washed the bowls and chopsticks afterward.
On the floor where Hua Murong was staying, dozens of platinum-ranked members stood guard with guns in hand. Whenever they spotted a wyvern flying toward Hua Murong, they fired, shooting it down. They were the guards responsible for protecting Hua Murong while she used her abilities, and some of them consequently became prime targets for the wyverns and died unfortunate deaths.
The scorpion named Blondo advanced step by step toward Jin Shengzhe. He stood firmly in place like a stone statue, without retreating even half a step.
Unfortunately, firearm control was extremely strict in China. Very few police officers were permitted to carry guns, let alone at a vital passage of the Gate of Ten Thousand Beasts, where other considerations had to be taken into account as well.
He instinctively tried to dodge, but because his muscles were far too tense and lacked suppleness, the movement he intended to make simply failed to come out properly.
As far as he knew, there were indeed quite a few caves on Immortal Peak Mountain. However, they were all hidden in secluded hollows of the mountain, places ordinary people could not enter at all, since the cave entrances were surrounded by sharp rocks or thorny plants.
Thus, Zhi Yu Chang Kong asked, “Can it be trusted?” The three words actually contained two questions: one concerned the extent of his abilities, and the other concerned his relationship with the land of Chu.
“You were the one who threatened Li Qing and struck him!” Song Dafeng seemed determined to oppose Ye Long. Even after being slapped just moments earlier, he still stubbornly insisted that Li Qing had been violently threatened by Ye Long.
“You betrayed me and joined forces with Qingfeng to attack me. Do you really think I wouldn’t want to kill you?” Dharma said coldly to Ye Long.
“How about this? It’s getting late. Let’s eat together first,” Fang Qinghan suggested.
“Your skills are quite impressive. You don’t seem like an ordinary commoner, and there’s none of the aura of a wandering martial hero about you…” As Lin Xiuyan spoke, Moqi Liang’s expression changed slightly.
And this had also been remarkably effective. Everything they had done before was concealed completely. Even when we came all the way here with this fellow, we failed to detect the slightest trace of it.
The Gate of Life and Death had originally been an exceedingly mysterious place. But with so many players flooding in, no amount of mystery could save it. So long as it remained on this vast land, the players would eventually find it.
There were two crisp clicks. We had barely stepped out through the side door when they closed it behind us.
“All right.” Zhu Zhongzhong nodded readily. The group chatted for quite a while longer before going their separate ways and returning to their rooms at the inn.
By now, the dead had been removed, and the bloodstains had been scrubbed clean by palace servants eager to demonstrate their loyalty to the new master. One had to admit that they were all working with tremendous zeal. Although they had yet to decide whom to flatter, they could hardly go wrong by siding with either of the brothers, Haishan and Ayurbarwada.
Taking a closer look, we discovered that the coffin that had arrived here was somewhat strange. Its color differed slightly from those of the coffins before it. The earlier coffins had all been made of black wood and coated with lacquer, so when illuminated by a fire striker, they reflected the light faintly.
As for the breastfeeding part, I made a fool of myself. I had no experience and saw my neighbor’s wife still nursing her child several months after giving birth. I assumed that women continued to produce milk indefinitely after having a child. Ha-ha, thank you all for correcting me and explaining it. I’ve learned my lesson. From now on, I’ll ask more questions and look things up online more carefully. I’ll revise the incorrect parts once the editor is back at work.
Her pitch-black eyes fixed on hers. His hand tightened around her thigh, and he shifted slightly to the side, teasing and enticing her with an increasingly suggestive air.
“What does it feel like to date a celebrity? In truth, without experiencing it personally, no matter how thoroughly I describe it, other people still won’t be able to understand. Even so, I want to use this platform to share a few things. In any case, I’m anonymous, so no one knows who I am.”
