Chapter 14: I’m Sorry, Jiang Jiang
The speed was too fast, catching everyone off guard.
The engagement banquet was still ongoing.
Suiyu Fu stared coldly at Yu Lin, who was clutching her neck.
Her eyes filled with hatred, her tone icy.
"Yu Lin, I’m warning you, tonight’s engagement banquet will end well no matter what. Don’t cause any more trouble. The world will keep turning without Jiajin Fu, and you’ve never lacked men around you anyway."
After speaking, Jia Peng Fu and Jia Xuan Fu rushed out anxiously.
They stood on either side, wary eyes fixed on her.
It was false to say they weren’t hurt.
The heartbreak was momentary; the current situation was only temporary.
Behind Jia Peng Fu and Jia Xuan Fu, Yu Lin smiled faintly.
Suiyu Fu looked at the three people before her.
"Tonight, watch your little sister. If she interferes with my brother’s engagement banquet again, I’ll kick her out of the Fu family—and you too!"
Jia Xuan Fu smiled in agreement, but his eyes were frightening.
Suiyu Fu threw all three out.
She entered the main hall.
Xiangge Lin, in high heels, stood by Suiyu Fu’s side, giving her a thumbs-up.
“You’re amazing!”
“Thanks for the compliment!”
Jiahui Fu, unnoticed until now, had quietly stood beside Suiyu Fu and Xiangge Lin, listening to their conversation while his eyes occasionally scanned elsewhere.
Suiyu Fu was too reckless, showing no respect to Yu Lin.
He truly feared Suiyu Fu would leave them again.
Upstairs.
Old Master Jiang glared at Jiajin Fu, scolding fiercely.
“I, this old man, warned your parents from the start: if you have your own children, don’t think about adopting others. But they wouldn’t listen, moved by misplaced kindness.”
“And now? What have they brought us? That girl keeps stirring up trouble, embarrassing my granddaughter multiple times. If it weren’t for your parents and your sister, I wouldn’t have married my granddaughter to you.”
Jiajin Fu bowed, maintaining a good attitude.
Old Master Jiang snorted.
“It’s May now; the wedding’s at the end of the year. Control that fake sister of yours. I don’t have the patience to tolerate her anymore. If she causes trouble at my granddaughter’s wedding, I’ll throw her into the sea to feed the fish with a flick of my hand.”
Jiujiu Jiang hurriedly soothed the old man.
They couldn’t let him pass out from anger over a counterfeit.
Jiajin Fu shamelessly sat nearby.
“Grandpa, I’ll handle it.”
“What grandpa? Don’t call me grandpa—I don’t have a grandson like you. Don’t disgust me!”
Suiyu Fu pushed the door open.
“He’s practically half a grandson-in-law to your Jiang family. Calling you grandpa is proper.”
Jiajin Fu immediately stepped aside, handing the stage over to Suiyu Fu.
The old man handed over a lacquered wooden box.
“Here, a reward. Thanks to your quick reflexes tonight, my granddaughter’s reputation as a shrew didn’t spread.”
“Grandpa!”
He turned back, casting a look at Jiujiu Jiang.
“Grandpa isn’t deaf. Why shout so loudly?”
Jiujiu Jiang was silenced, obediently sitting aside.
Looking at Suiyu Fu, he said, “Little Fish, thank you today. Without you, besides resorting to violence, I really wouldn’t have known what else to do. You know I’m not the kind to finesse words; in situations like this, I’m even less inclined to listen to that clipped accent. A punch was the only solution, but that would damage my image, so I thank you.”
“Why thank me? I did it for my brother. He’s no spring chicken; he can’t afford to lose his wife to some hypocrites and end up a widower.”
Jiajin Fu wanted to say more but held back given the situation.
Still, he couldn’t help but grumble inwardly:
—I’m not old.
—I’m only 336 months old.
—This sister of mine is impossible, calling me old.
Suddenly, the old man rose and walked toward the door.
Only Suiyu Fu and her brother and sister-in-law remained in the room.
She looked at Jiujiu Jiang, then at Jiajin Fu.
She wasn’t some third wheel.
So she slipped away.
Jiujiu Jiang stared at Jiajin Fu.
“What are you thinking? The wedding’s at year-end, and I’m not ready!”
“I’ll arrange everything. After we marry, we’ll live in our wedding home.”
Mentioning the wedding home ignited Jiujiu Jiang’s anger.
“You still have the nerve to bring up the wedding home? The house I painstakingly decorated—you let Yu Lin live in it!”
“Sorry!”
The apology was so quick Jiujiu Jiang was speechless.
“But don’t worry, I’ve prepared another house near your studio, decorated to your taste. As for the other one, I’ll sell it another day.”
“No, keep it for now. After all, I designed it bit by bit. It’s hard to just sell it off like that. People can be bad, but houses are innocent.”
Jiajin Fu pulled out a black card.
“I bought the next-door apartment to the new wedding home too. Here’s the card. If you want to try living somewhere new, you can use this. As for the old place, better to let it go to avoid upsetting us.”
Jiujiu Jiang pinched the black card between her fingers.
This card was from a world-class bank, whose clients were billionaires worldwide.
But then she remembered someone else had touched it.
She frowned.
Jiajin Fu must have sensed her thoughts.
He took her hand, gently holding her slender pink fingers, and slipped the card into her palm.
“I canceled Yu Lin’s card. After my sister returned, I had the bank make this one for me. The password is your birthday.”
The card had been forcibly placed in Jiujiu Jiang’s hand. After hearing Jiajin Fu’s explanation, she accepted it calmly.
In the Fu family tradition, earning money was meant to be spent on one’s wife.
This was what her godmother had told her.
Jiajin Fu held Jiujiu Jiang’s neck from behind, pulling her close, then pressed his forehead to hers.
Softly apologizing, “Sorry, Jiangjiang.”
Everyone else called her Jiujiu, but only Jiajin Fu called her Jiangjiang.
Yet she hadn’t heard that nickname in years.
Now, her eyes welled up uncontrollably.
They reddened painfully.
Outside the door, rustling sounds.
The two exchanged glances and stood up in understanding, though some displeasure still lingered in their eyes.
They opened the door to see two heads tilted sideways.
Suiyu Fu even patted Xiangge Lin on the shoulder.
“Why so quiet? My brother isn’t that bad!”
She felt the temperature drop instantly.
Turning, she saw Jiajin Fu’s half-smiling, half-smirking face.
Patting Xiangge Lin again, he whispered with a smile, “Get up quickly, we’ve been spotted.”
The two then looked awkwardly at Jiajin Fu and Jiujiu Jiang.
Finally, they fled in embarrassment.
As humiliating as it could be.
—
Xiangge Lin was the first to notice the crowd in the distance.
She patted the dessert-obsessed Suiyu Fu.
Jiahui Fu was right in front of Yu Lin.
They didn’t know what they were discussing.
—
Then Jiahui Fu suddenly turned sharply, staring at the two of them.
Suiyu Fu sensed immediately that something was wrong with Jiahui Fu.
Sure enough.
The next second, Jiahui Fu appeared in front of Suiyu Fu, his face stern as he pulled Xiangge Lin away.
He didn’t give Suiyu Fu a chance to stop him.
The next moment.
Yu Lin glanced over.
Jia Peng Fu and Jia Xuan Fu blocked Suiyu Fu’s path.
Suiyu Fu suddenly calmed.
Her emotions were complicated.
She wasn’t sure whether to intervene since Xiangge Lin seemed willing.
Her greatest fear was Jiahui Fu saying hurtful things again.
It was unbearable.
Seeing the two foolish brothers blocking her, Suiyu Fu sat back down and continued nibbling on her unfinished cupcake.
She was a dessert-lover, always sweet and soft.
Yu Lin was somewhat surprised but still uneasy.
She acted coquettishly, letting Jia Peng Fu and Jia Xuan Fu keep an eye on Suiyu Fu.
—
Elsewhere.
A sports car sped along the coastal highway.
Xiangge Lin frowned as she looked at Jiahui Fu.
“Brother Jiahui!”
Screech.
Tires left black marks on the pavement.
Jiahui Fu looked coldly at Xiangge Lin.
“Don’t call me that. Only my Yu Lin sister can call me that—you’re not worthy!”
Xiangge Lin thought to herself: Wow, such a versatile boyfriend.
She didn’t speak again the next second.
The car had stopped somewhere eerie; outside was silent, streetlights flickering on and off.
The atmosphere was ominous.
Jiahui Fu forcefully tilted Xiangge Lin’s chin up, his eyes filled with scorn, his gaze icy and cruel.
“You’re only worth that face!”
“Yes, you look like Yu Lin. You can only vent your messy thoughts on my face!”
“Shut up!”
“What, did I expose your disguise? Now you’re angry?”
Jiahui Fu grabbed Xiangge Lin’s neck.
His pupils reddened, veins bursting.
“I said shut up! I don’t allow you to mention her!”
Xiangge Lin laughed bitterly, tears silently streaming down her face.
“Jiahui Fu, if I didn’t still like the one inside you, I would never let you treat me like this.”
Something inside Jiahui Fu’s mind seemed to collapse.
He stared at Xiangge Lin.
“You?”
“The one inside me? What do you mean?”
Xiangge Lin twisted free from his grip.
“Literal meaning, that’s all.”
Jiahui Fu looked at her face, burning with rage.
“You’re not allowed to like him. I brought you back; you can only like me!”
Xiangge Lin gave a bitter laugh.
“You—I don’t like scumbags who have someone else in their hearts.”
