Integrity is the cornerstone of personal character. When a person loses integrity, it is akin to a grand building losing its foundation—eventually, it will collapse. Throughout history, countless examples have taught us the vital importance of honesty.

Shang Yang’s act of standing a wooden stake as a pledge earned the trust of the people, laying a solid foundation for reforms in the State of Qin; Ji Bu’s promise was worth a thousand gold pieces, and his unwavering honesty earned him a formidable reputation. Even when caught in dire straits, many were willing to stand by him steadfastly.
